Method and system for a plurality of mobile units to locate one another

A method and system whereby two mobile units can locate each other is presented. A user connects an interface device, such as a personal digital assistance (PDA), a wireless phone, a laptop, or a pager, to a mobile unit. The mobile unit regularly obtains its location through a location-determining technology (e.g., GPS) and sends the location to a service provider computer. The service provider computer maintains a database of the current location of all the mobile units, and provides the location of mobile units to each of the mobile units. The mobile unit communicates with the service provider wirelessly through a communication network and a data network, for example the Internet.A user of the mobile unit can send messages to other users with a location stamp, which indicates the location of the message sender's mobile unit. In addition, a user can send a request to be notified when a target mobile unit reaches a reference point. The reference point may be defined relative to the location of the requester. Alternatively, the reference point may be an address or a landmark. Upon receiving the request, the service provider computer tracks the distance between the target mobile unit and the reference point, and sends a notification to the requester when the target mobile unit reaches the reference point.

Method and system for content conversion of hypertext data using data mining

Method and system for content conversion of electronic data using data mining. A user is able select one or more hypertext elements from one or more hypertext electronic document for conversion based on user conversion preferences. For example, a user selects one or more display elements from one or more “web-pages” from the World-Wide-Web on the Internet or an intranet. The hypertext elements are extracted from one or more hypertext electronic documents and converted into a format suitable for display on a user device based on user conversion preferences. Selected hypertext elements are extracted and converted using data mining conversion operations. The data mining conversion operations allow a user to extract only desired display information displayed from a hypertext element and convert the display information into a format different than that defined for the original electronic document. The converted display information is appropriate for a user device such as hand-held, wireless phone, personal digital assistant, or other device.

System and method for secure web-based mobile phone parental controls

A wireless system and method for implementing call controls (such as parental controls) for wireless telephones via a call-intercept platform (including a soft switch and / or an SS7 interconnection node, and SQL database), and a conventional mobile phone that makes and receives all outgoing calls through the call intercept platform. The call intercept platform includes secure web server to provide a secure website point of entry for allowing parents to specify a ruleset of parental controls that is stored in the SQL database. Every outgoing call from the mobile phone is routed into the call-intercept platform, which logs the call, crosschecks the mobile phone and outgoing call number against the stored ruleset for that phone / user, and selectively screens te calls. Incoming calls are automatically forwarded from the wireless carrier to the call intercept platform and are logged, cross-checked and selectively screened. The secure web portal allows parents and guardians or other individuals who desire to self-limit call usage to thoroughly manage their dependent's or their own phone, inclusive of viewing calls, activating and deactivating controls, customizing controls, as well as purchasing prepaid minutes and managing their accounts.

Techniques for voice-based user authentication for mobile access to network services

Techniques for granting access on a network having a network service to a user of a mobile device having a microphone includes determining a first identification uniquely associated with a registered user having a registered voiceprint that matches a voiceprint of the user of the mobile device. A second identification uniquely associated with the mobile device is also determined. It is then determined whether to grant access based on the first identification and the second identification. If it is determined to grant access, access is granted on the network to the user. Various aspects of the invention allow a user to be authenticated separately of the mobile device by the voice of the user, and granted access to a network service based on both the user's identity and the identity of the mobile device. Both the user's voice and the device identity are provided using the current capabilities of wireless telephones. Obtaining the first identification and second identification within a specified time interval makes confidently practical the technique of verifying that a certain user controls a certain mobile device, and then allowing access by that device to protected services.

Reducing perceived latency in servicing user requests on low-bandwidth communication channels

Access to hypermedia servers connected to networks such as the Internet can be provided through mobile devices such as wireless telephones. Unfortunately, limitations in processing power and memory space of the mobile device and limitations bandwidth of the communication channels connecting the mobile devices to the rest of the network cause long wait times for many types of requests to be serviced. In one application, a user is notified that unsolicited electronic mail has arrived in the user's mail box on a computer connected directly a network and, in response, the user requests the mail to be sent to the mobile device. The perceived latency in servicing such a request can be reduced by delivering at least a portion of the unsolicited electronic mail to mobile device before notifying the user that the mail has arrived in the mail box. In this manner, at least a portion of that mail can be presented to the user in response to a request with little delay.

Binocular stereoscopic vision matching method combining depth characteristics

The invention discloses a binocular stereoscopic vision matching method combining depth characteristics. The binocular stereoscopic vision matching method comprises: obtaining a depth characteristic pattern from left and right images through a convolutional neural network; calculating a truncation similarity measurement degree of pixel depth characteristics by taking the depth characteristics as the standard, and constructing a truncation matching cost function combining color, gradients and depth characteristics to obtain a matched cost volume; processing the matched cost volume by adopting a fixed window, a variable window and a self-adaptive weight polymerization or guide filtering method to obtain a cost volume polymerized by a matching cost; selecting an optimal parallax error of the cost volume by adopting WTA (Wireless Telephony Application) to obtain an initial parallax error pattern; then finding a shielding region by adopting a double-peak test, left-right consistency detection, sequence consistency detection or shielding constraint algorithm, and giving a shielding point to a parallax error value of a same-row point closest to the shielding point to obtain a parallax error pattern; and filtering the parallax error pattern by adopting a mean value or bilateral filter to obtain a final parallax error pattern. By adopting the binocular stereoscopic vision matching method combining the depth characteristics, the incorrect matching rate of three-dimensional matching can be effectively reduced, the images are smooth and image edges including edges of small objects are effectively kept.
