Caching transformed content in a mobile gateway

Methods, systems, and computer program products for caching content that has been customized based on one or more operating characteristics of a mobile client. A mobile gateway receives content from a content source and customizes the content using transforms assigned to each mobile client. Transforms account for differences between mobile clients without imposing significant processing burdens on the content server. Copies of the content, the transformed content, and a transform identifier are cached at the mobile gateway so that subsequent requests for the content may be satisfied without requiring access to the content source. Processing that is common among several transforms may be shared. Mobile clients may be any type of computer.

Method and apparatus for providing voice and data services in a mobile communication system with various overlapped access networks

An apparatus and method for seamlessly providing voice and data services to a user through an access terminal in a mobile communication system including a heterogeneous service & mobility gateway (HSMG) for an interworking service between a circuit network and a packet network, and various access networks overlapping each other. The access terminal notifies the HSMG that a voice call is received, if the access terminal that accessed a packet network receives a voice call. The HSMG sends a direction request to a circuit network upon receiving the notification indicating that the voice call is received. The access terminal directs to the circuit network and registers a new location upon receiving the direction request. The HSMG sets up an incoming voice call to the access terminal after the registration of a new location.

Over the air update of payment transaction data stored in secure memory

A system, apparatus, and method for processing payment transactions that are conducted using a mobile device that includes a contactless element, such as an integrated circuit chip. The invention enables the updating, correction or synchronization of transaction data maintained by an Issuer with that stored on the device. This is accomplished by using a wireless (cellular) network as a data communication channel for data provided by an Issuer to the mobile device, and is particularly advantageous in circumstances in which the contactless element is not presently capable of communication with a device reader or point of sale terminal that uses a near field communications mechanism. Data transferred between the mobile device and Issuer may be encrypted and decrypted to provide additional security and protect the data from being accessed by other users or applications. If encryption keys are used for the encryption and decryption processes, they may be distributed by a key distribution server or other suitable entity to a mobile gateway which participates in the data encryption and decryption operations.

Credential authentication for mobile users

Methods, systems, and computer program products for authenticating a mobile client that may have an input system optimized for numeric input. A mobile gateway receives authentication credentials from a mobile client and uses an authentication filter to map the authentication credentials according to pre-established criteria. The authentication filter may change the domain name, the username, or both. Then, the mapped authentication credentials are sent to a network that includes the content server being accessed. Any access privileges granted to the mobile client are based on the mapped authentication credentials. The mobile gateway may be configured to accept connections only from known servers. Mobile authentication credentials may be maintained in one or more domains, possibly having a trust relationship, or may be stored in a separately administered credential database.

Mobile gateways in pool for session resilience

Embodiments of the invention include a method for providing UE session resilience performed in a first PDN-GW that is coupled to a second PDN-GW, which are both in a PDN-GW pool. The method provides UE session resilience by allowing the first PDN-GW to provide connectivity for UE sessions previously serviced by the second PDN-GW after the second PDN-GW becomes non-operational. The first PDN-GW recognizes that the second PDN-GW failed and then activates a plurality of standby UE sessions. Each standby UE session is a backup UE session corresponding to a previously active UE session serviced on the second PDN-GW. Each standby UE session is associated with a UE device and a network resource identifier of an APN slice. The first PDN-GW transmits a message to a SGW that is servicing the UE sessions that indicates that the SGW should direct traffic previously bound for the second PDN-GW to the first PDN-GW.

Mobility management in wireless internet protocol networks

Handoff of (i) a mobile wirelessly communicating device—a mobile—between (ii) a plurality of stationary base stations within cells within a domain of (iii) a stationary gateway router all within (iv) a communications network based on the Internet Protocol (IP) is without interchange of control, and responsive to the mobile, only. The gateway router assigns to the mobile at a time before the handoff IP addresses suitable for the mobile to connect to the gateway router through all the plurality of base stations of the domain. Unilaterally deriving a handoff decision to switch base stations, the mobile directs its wireless communications link to a new base station where signal level registration is performed. Responsive to a link layer trigger at the new base station, the gateway router is informed of the handoff, and both the router and the mobile independently construct the mobile's new IP address. Handoff latency is typically 40 ms.
