A system for communicating with a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) includes a winged ROV coupled to a surface buoy by a tether. A controller on a support ship is coupled to the tether and the control signals are then transmitted through the tether to the ROV. Feedback and sensor signals are transmitted from the ROV through the wireless transceivers to the controller. The wings of the ROV produce negative lift which is greater than the buoyant force of the ROV and the vertical tension forces on the tether.

Apparatus, systems and methods for aquatic sports communications

Water safety device

A water safety device includes a transmitter device adapted for operation with an alarm and search console. The transmitter device includes an alerting unit and an associated activation sensor. Activation of the alerting unit results in the transmission from the alerting unit to the alarm and search console of a tracking signal. The activation sensor may be any transducer or combination of transducers capable of sensing physical phenomenon generally concomitant a fall into water from a boat or ship. The alerting unit is adapted to immediately begin transmission of a predetermined signal for tracking of the life preserver and transmitter device by the alarm and search console following activation by the activation sensor. The alerting unit may be adapted to cause automated inflation of one or more inflatable bladders upon any indication that the wearer of the water safety device has fallen from the boat or ship.

The method includes calculating, with a processing device, a natural period for the tanks holding the liquid cargo based on the configuration and fill levels of the tanks, receiving, at the processing device, data describing the actual or predicted motion of the ship with respect to three orthogonal axes, determining, with the processing device, a proximity of the natural period of the tanks to a period defined by the actual or predicted motion of the ship, and providing an alert to a user if the proximity in periods is within a threshold value.

The processor can include written instructions for transmitting only single sentence AIS messages when the transponder is within RsAIS of a satellite but outside range RtAIS of a terrestrial AIS base station, and switching to the base station when the vessel is within RtAIS but outside of cellular modem range, Rcell. While transmitting to the AIS satellite or AIS base station, portions of the vessel AIS are recorded to the database as historical data. Once within Rcell, the transponder can switch to transmission via cellular modem to an AIS architecture server. Historical data can also be downloaded to complete and update the vessel AIS data profile within AIS.
