The europium complex is shown as a condensed structural formula [Eu(D-DTTA)3(CH3O)3]n, wherein D-H2DTTA refers to (+)-2,3-diacetyl para-toluene-D-tartaric acid, and CH3OH refers to methanol. The preparation method includes mixing a D-H2DTTA methanol solution with an EuCl3 water solution, adding a specific quantity of KOH waste solution to regulate a pH value to range from 3.0 to 4.5, stirring, standing until colorless and transparent triangular prism crystals separate out sufficiently, filtering and collecting a product, wherein the yield is 48%. The europium complex structurally comprises nine-coordinated europium ions, and ligands refer to D-DTTA<2-> and CH3O<-> negative ions. The solid europium complex can serve as an optical material by representing strong red light characteristics of Eu (III) by being excited by light 280 nm in wavelength.
