Abstract

The invention relates to a method for treating cancer by intratumoral injection of variant collagenase. The present invention provides a method of treating cancer characterized in that a composition comprising a variant collagenase is injected into a tumor of an individual suffering from cancer in order to reduce the abundance of collagen within the extracellular matrix of the tumor microenvironment. By utilizing the method disclosed by the invention, the stiffness and the volume of the tumor can be reduced, and the infiltration of immune cells, especially the infiltration increase of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL), can be assisted. When the variant collagenase injection is combined with immune checkpoint blocking therapy, targeted therapy and chemotherapy, the variant collagenase injection provided by the invention has synergistic anti-tumor activity.
