Embodiment Construction

[0024] figure 2 It is an outline diagram of the fiber amplifier structure of an example of the present invention. The optical fiber amplifier is composed of a pumping laser diode (200), an erbium-doped optical fiber (220), a circulator (240), and a dual-port wavelength selective coupler (210). The pumping laser diode (200) provides pumping light to the erbium-doped fiber (220) so as to amplify the incident signal light; its wavelength band is 980nm or 1480nm. Erbium-doped fiber (220) is a gain medium. It will use the pump light of the pump laser diode (200) to amplify the signal light transmitted from the circulator (240). The circulator (240) transmits the incident signal light from its own input port (242) to the erbium-doped fiber (220); Optical signals are only allowed to be transmitted to the output port (244), and not allowed to be output to the input port (242). In addition, the circulator (240) prevents the light reflected from the optical connector (not shown) fr...

Abstract

An optical fiber amplifier having higher gain and lower noise than a prior art fiber amplifier when both amplifiers employ an equal length of gain medium-containing optical fiber and an equal intensity of pumping light. The optical fiber amplifier of the present invention comprises: a length of optical fiber containing a gain medium; a circulator, connected to one end of the optical fiber, that introduces optical signals into the optical fiber and outputs the optical signals amplified at the optical fiber to its output port; optical pumping means, for applying pumping light to the optical fiber in order to amplify the introduced optical signals; and a two-port wavelength selective coupler, disposed between the other end of the optical fiber and the optical pumping means, that passes pumping light from the optical pumping means and reflects back the amplified optical signals from the optical fiber. According to the present invention, a high-efficiency optical fiber amplifier can be manufactured with low costs. Moreover, when the fiber amplifier of the present invention is used for an optical transmitter system, system characteristics such as optical signal-to-noise ratio and system margin can be enhanced.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of optical fiber amplifiers; in particular, it will have higher gain and low noise characteristics compared with traditional optical fiber amplifiers under the condition of utilizing the same length of optical fiber containing a gain medium and the same intensity of pumping light A kind of fiber amplifier. Background technique [0002] Usually, in the optical transmission system of long-distance optical communication, the traditional optical communication method uses laser diodes to convert electrical signals into optical signals; the converted optical signals are transmitted through optical fibers; the process of transmission through optical fibers In the process, due to the loss of optical fibers, the optical signal will become weaker, so it will be converted into an electrical signal for amplification; the amplified electrical signal will be converted into an optical signal for communication. Thi...
