Abstract

Disclosed are stabilized electrostatically-sprayable topical compositions and methods of treating the skin by electrostatic application of such compositions. The compositions comprise:a) from about 2% to about 90% of a liquid insulating material;b) from about 2% to about 90% of a conductive material;c) from about 0.1% to about 35% of a particulate material which is insoluble and immiscible in the composition; andd) from about 0.5% to about 30% of a thickener for stabilizing the composition. The liquid insulating materials and conductive materials present in the composition are sufficiently miscible or soluble in the composition such that they are in substantially one phase.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to stable electrostatically sprayable topical compositions and methods of treating the skin by electrostatically applying such compositions. Examples of electrostatically sprayable compositions include colored cosmetics and other skin care compositions. Background of the invention [0002] A variety of topically applied skin care products are known. Typically, such products are applied by massaging or rubbing into the skin with fingers or a sponge-type applicator. Other methods of application are also known, including aerosol spraying, non-aerosol pump spraying, and electrostatic spraying. For example, electrostatic spraying of skin care agents is disclosed in US Patent 5,494,674, issued February 27, 1996 to Barnett et al. [0003] Electrostatic spraying of topical substances has been proposed as a method for more efficient application and activation, control throughout application, ease of application and clean / hygi...
