Problems solved by technology

The main problems of existing tunable external cavity lasers designed using acousto-optic filters are: (1) The compensation of Doppler frequency shift is usually done with two crystals, making alignment very difficult
(2) The method of soldering two RF transducers to the same crystal mentioned in some US patents significantly increases the cost

Embodiment Construction

[0040] Embodiments of the present invention will be further described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

[0041] figure 1 An implementation of a compact, frequency offset compensated, wavelength tunable optical filter is shown. The implementation 100 includes a medium 30 , an acousto-optic transducer 20 , a radio frequency (RF) power source 10 , and an optical mirror 50 .

[0042] There are two types of tunable acousto-optic filters: collinear and non-collinear. Among them, the non-collinear type includes isotropic Bragg diffraction type and non-paraxial anisotropic Bragg diffraction type. Among them, the non-paraxial anisotropic Bragg diffraction type, as discussed in several other US patents, is more valuable in practical applications because of its narrow tuning bandwidth.

[0043] In one implementation, the medium 30 is anisotropic and birefringent, which is required for narrow bandwidth tuning. A substance that satisfies these characteristics is tel...

Abstract

The invention discloses a tunable laser system, a acousto-optic tunable filter that utilizes frequency offset compensation. Precision and stability of the output wavelength are realized by a wavelength lock; the wavelength lock utilizes two separated cavity laser beam to avoid using a beam splitter, which reduces requirements to space comparing to a tradition wavelength lock, and running is more stable, and assembly easier. The acousto-optic tunable filter comprises a acousto-optic crystal and a acoustic wave transducer that are bond on surface selected by a crystal to generate acoustic wave;an optical reflector is used for reflecting the diffracted ray back to the acousto-optic medium; because the two incident rays are opposite relative to the acoustic wave propagation direction, the frequency offset generated by the two diffraction is compensated. The invention can be used to produce wideband tunable laser system for various applications with different laser gain medium, acoustic wave drive frequency and acousto-optic crystal.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a tunable laser system, in particular to a laser resonator using an acousto-optic tunable filter for frequency offset compensation, a wavelength locker and power monitoring, which can realize fast tuning, stable wavelength and power output. Tuning the laser system. Background technique [0002] Currently, most modern communication systems are based on fiber optic communication networks. Optical fiber network provides unprecedented large capacity and installation flexibility, which can support the continuous development of various broadband applications. Broadband tunable laser systems can help maximize the use of existing fiber optic network resources. By dynamically provisioning bandwidth, traffic can be shifted from congested channels to unused channels to meet the needs of the Internet. The use of tunable laser systems makes it easy to quickly establish or change optical paths, and it is one of the important devices for r...
