The preparation method comprises the following steps: stirring and pasting starch to obtain starch pasting liquid; adding acrylamide, N,N'-methylene diacrylamide, ammonium ceric nitrate and kaolin to the starch pasting liquid, and stirring; then adding a sodium hydroxide solution, and stirring to react, thus obtaining polyacrylamide compound powder after aftertreatment; and dispersing the polyacrylamide compound powder in a water solution, coating the water solution on a vinylon filament, and drying at high temperature to obtain the polyacrylamide compound type water-blocking yarn. The preparation method has the following beneficial effects: as a functional filler, the added kaolin improves the water absorbency, so that the obtained polyacrylamide compound type water-blocking yarn has good longitudinal water-blocking effect and good tensile strength and heat stability; and the method is simple in production process and stable in technical performance and can be widely applied.
