The active ingredient of a drug for the prevention or treatment of the hyperlipidemia comprises polyoxymethylflavone, wherein the polyoxymethylflavone refers to 3,5,6,7,8,3',4'-heptamethoxyflavones, and the active ingredient further comprises pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or excipients so as to be prepared into a pharmaceutically acceptable dosage form. The high level of either of the total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) of plasma can cause the hyperlipidemia. The invention confirms that 3,5,6,7,8,3',4'-heptamethoxyflavones (HMF) can significantly reduce the levels of the TG, the TC and the LDL-c, significantly increase the level of HDL-C in the plasma, and prevent or treat the hyperlipidemia.
