[0040] Except in operative examples or where otherwise indicated, all figures expressing quantities of ingredients are to be understood in all cases as being modified by the term "about".

[0041] topical antiseptic

[0042] Topical antiseptics are designed to target skin with bacterial infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and others. Antimicrobials inhibit cell wall synthesis by binding to bacterial ribosomes and interfering with mRNA ribosome binding. In another hypothesis, antimicrobial agents are thought to induce ribosomes to produce peptide chains containing the wrong amino acids, which ultimately destroy the bacterial cell.

[0043] mupirocin

[0044]Mupirocin is an antibiotic with a narrow activity spectrum, mainly against Gram-positive bacteria. Mupirocin is an antibiotic produced by submerged fermentation of Pseudomonas fluorescens. The drug is a pseudomonic acid and is structu...

Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of bacterial skin infections, burns and wounds are disclosed. The pharmaceutical composition comprises an active ingredient, preferably mupirocin; a biopolymer, preferably chitosan, having a molecular weight in the range of 250,000 Da to 600,000 Da, and having a degree of deacetylation of not less than 80%; hydrolyzed collagen, preferably Type I, having a molecular weight in the range of 3 kDa to 6 kDa, and an ointment base comprising an emulsifier, a diol, and a solubilizing agent. The present invention has better stability than existing ointments, which achieves skin healing and reepithelization faster than existing treatments, thereby shortening hospitalization time.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions for bacterial infection and wound healing. In particular, the present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a topical antibiotic pharmaceutical active; a biopolymer; type I hydrolyzed collagen; and an ointment base. Background technique [0002] The skin is the body's first line of defense against infection-causing bacteria. Bacterial skin infections can affect small spots, or can spread to affect large areas. They can range from treatable infections to life-threatening skin conditions. Common skin infections include cellulitis, erysipelas, impetigo, folliculitis, and boils and carbuncles. Cellulitis is an ill-defined infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue and is usually caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus species. Erysipelas is a well-defined superficial form of cellulitis and is almost exclusively caused by streptococcal bacteria. Impetigo is also c...
