Stun gun

A stun gun having an electrically insulated protuberance that extends to a height above the line between the vertical terminations of the exposed electrical target contacts. Before the weapon's target probes can be brought in contact with the target, the insulative protuberance compresses the target's muscle. This action shortens the length of the muscle while increasing the area of tissue involved in a subsequent shocking discharge. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of a sustained involuntary flexing or extending contraction of the muscle. A rectangular ammunition bay may be placed in the weapon with a portion of one partially exposed probe touching the ammunition's negative contact and a portion of the other partially exposed probe touching the ammunition's positive contact. In the event of a ballistic deployment failure, without the addition of any circuitry, the weapon can still act as a manual contact weapon.

Cartridge for remote electroshock weapon

A cartridge for launching from an electroshock weapon includes a housing adapted for operative connection with the electroshock weapon and having a chamber functioning as a barrel for a projectile unit. The projectile unit includes a conductive head member and an orderly packed wire assembly of electric wire connected with said head member and preferably in coil form. The head member includes a barbed needle for establishing an electrical connection with a target. The electric wire is connected at one end to the head member and at the other end to the housing whereby the wire is withdrawn from the coil as the projectile unit advances toward said target. The project unit is launched by a percussive cap at a rear end of said chamber ignited by the electroshock weapon. At the target an electrical connection is established through the wire to the weapon.

Non-lethal electrical discharge weapon having a slim profile

InactiveUS20060120009A1Easy to placeAssure effectivenessElectrical apparatusSmallarmsPower flowPush off
An electrical discharge weapon configured as a lightweight, slim profile gun-shaped weapon which is less than one inch thick along the cartridge receiving chamber so that it can be readily placed in a police officer's uniform pocket or in a slim-line holster for easy deployment. All of the major internal components, including battery and transformer, are positioned above or behind the trigger aperture so that even with the dart cartridge in the chamber, the weapon's center of gravity is through the hand so that it is balanced and easily aimed at the target. The invention employs a specially configured chamber to receive a unique cartridge with widely separated darts. As a result, the electrodes may be also widely separated so that current will not jump the electrode gap even when the impacted darts leave a substantial gap to a suspect's skin. Thus, the present invention is more likely to be effective against suspect's wearing thick outerwear. The spent cartridge may be expelled by a spring-activated release for quick ejection and rapid reload. A bottom rail permits connection of another non-lethal device such as a mace canister for use as a secondary weapon or the attachment of tactical lighting or laser aiming devices. A push-on / push-off trigger switch is combined with a mechanical safety device to assure weapon effectiveness and safety for the police officer. Quick disconnect battery clip allows for rapid battery replacement.

Electrical discharge immobilization weapon projectile having multiple deployed contacts

A unitary projectile for an immobilization weapon and tethered by two electrical wires, has a plurality of electrical contacts including several contacts dispersed in a spaced pattern around the projectile after target impact. The pattern of several contacts substantially increases the probability that if the projectile hits the target, an immobilization circuit through the target will be completed. The deployment of the second contacts occurs as a result of the sudden deceleration of the projectile when it impacts the target or by the use of an additional spring-biased device. This simplifies the deployment as well as the projectile configuration and likely reduces the risk of misactivation or an ill-timed activation of the second contacts. In a preferred version of the disclosed embodiments, each projectile has its own electrical contact which forms one of the two polarities of the electrical discharge. In addition, there are preferably four second polarity contacts dispersed in a symmetrical arrangement around the projectile.

Systems and methods for immobilizing using plural energy stores

An electronic disabling device includes first and second electrodes positionable to establish first and second spaced apart contact points on a target having a high impedance air gap existing between at least one of the electrodes and the target. The power supply generates a first high voltage, short duration output across the first and second electrodes during a first time interval to ionize air within the air gap to thereby reduce the high impedance across the air gap to a lower impedance to enable current flow across the air gap at a lower voltage level. The power supply next generates a second lower voltage, longer duration output across the first and second electrodes during a second time interval to maintain the current flow across the first and second electrodes and between the first and second contact points on the target to enable the current flow through the target to cause involuntary muscle contractions to thereby immobilize the target.

Liquid disrupter with reduced recoil

The disrupter (16) includes an elongated hollow barrel (18) having a cylindrical inner chamber (20), a closed rear (26) end and an opened front end (22), the latter closed with a front frangible seal (38). A channel member (46) partly surrounds an intermediate portion of the barrel, and is securely attached thereto. A pair of recoil channels (76, 78) extend from the barrel inner chamber, radially outwardly and rearwardly through the barrel and the channel member, and are linked to rearwardly oriented recoil tubes (52, 54) which have opened rear end portions (60, 62) closed with rear frangible seals (64, 66). In use, a cartridge (90) including an explosive charge (88) is to be inserted in the barrel inner chamber at its rear end, and the barrel, recoil channels and recoil tubes (52, 54) are to be filled with water. The frangible seals (38, 64, 66) prevent the water from leaking out of the disrupter while it is positioned near a bomb to be deactivated. A trigger (36) is linked to the disrupter, and more particularly to the cartridge, to remotely detonate the explosive charge. Upon the explosive charge being detonated, a portion of the water is propelled and ejected at high velocity out through the barrel front end, rupturing the front frangible seal, to puncture the bomb outer shell and deactivate the bomb inner detonating components. Another portion of the water is redirected through the side recoil channels and recoil tubes, rupturing the rear frangible seals, to be ejected rearwardly out of the disrupter. The recoil created by the detonation of the explosive charge which ejects the water through the barrel front end, is at least partially counteracted by the water being laterally and rearwardly redirected to be ejected rearwardly out through the recoil tubes. The recoil tubes have at their rear ends (60, 62) transverse blades (73, 74) for wide angle dispersal of the fluid jet being ejected rearwardly.

Housing for chemical irritant dispenser

InactiveUS7644839B2Conveniently firedPrecise aimingDollsLarge containersEngineeringActuator
A housing can be mounted to a pistol or other weapon and conveniently fired therefrom and can be used as a discrete weapon itself. A cap has a central aperture which secures the nozzle and / or valve stem of a canister of chemical irritant from movement and is secured to the proximal end of a hollow tube. A feature of the new invention is a slot access running along the length of the tube for some distance from its distal end. The tube may be either open or closed at its distal end. Toward the distal end of the tube, an interior ridge or stop cooperates with the cap aperture to secure the canister of irritant. When a canister is installed in the housing, the operator can release an irritant spray axially from the canister by pressing a digit against the side of the canister's storage cylinder and, thereby, displace its longitudinal axis along an arc. The housing need have no other mechanisms, except the housing and canister. This method also allows for convenient triggering of a spray from a canister within the housing when the housing is secured under or adjacent to the barrel of a handgun. In some embodiments an actuator compresses against a spring-loaded pusher to contact the side of the storage cylinder and move the longitudinal axis of the storage cylinder to release a spray.
