916 results about "Short duration" patented technology

"Short duration" would mean your holding increases in value if interest rates increase. Buying a house with a mortgage is "short duration" (you profit if you locked in your rates and rates begin to rise). Duration is a number in years that can be interpreted as the average time of the security.

Parallel alarm processor

A parallel alarm processor has a threshold detector, a pattern extractor, a predetermined reference pattern, a first alarm and a second alarm. The threshold detector has a first output responsive to relatively long duration oxygen desaturations. The pattern extractor has a second output responsive to relatively short duration oxygen desaturations. The predetermined reference pattern is indicative of a series of intermittent oxygen desaturations. A first alarm is triggered when the first output crosses a lower limit threshold. A second alarm is triggered when the second output matches the predetermined reference pattern. In an embodiment, an integrator inputs smoothed oxygen saturation measurements to the threshold detector, and a predictor inputs predictive oxygen saturation measurements to the pattern extractor.

TV and data cable system ingress noise blocker

This invention permits the upstream transmission of short packets of information in a cable TV system, and blocking upstream noise at all other times, and does so without interfering with image quality of normal TV viewing. A remotely operable ingress noise blocking filter is placed at the terminating junction between a subscriber's coaxial drop cable and a corresponding feeder tap in a cable TV system. The ingress noise blocking filter contains a high pass filter to pass the normal TV band. This high pass filter is bypassed by a section containing low pass filters and a switch operated when receiving a control signal from a cable modem during those short durations the cable modem is authorized to transmit an upstream signal. Low pass filters isolate the switching elements so that switching transients cannot occur in the downstream TV band. The level of the amplitude of the downstream signal is unaffected whether the switching elements are open or closed. Further, the switching arrangement provides a relatively constant impedance, both when the switching element is on and off to provide a high return loss and avoid signal reflections and maintain signal quality. In a diagnostic mode, the location of each noise source is determined by correlating the energy measured at each a set of frequencies across the band at the headend during those periods when the cable modem is allowed to transmit versus the energy received during those periods when the same cable modem is not authorized to transmit.

The present invention provides systems and methods to use a measured driving-point response of a nonlinear material to determine one or more elastic properties of the material. The present invention takes advantage of the full information represented by the transient component, the steady-state component, the anharmonic components, and the nonlinear response components of a measured driving-point response of a real nonlinear material, without limitation in the use of large-amplitude forces. The elastic properties are determined by forming and solving a time-domain system of linear equations representing a differential equation model of the driving-point motions of the material. Based on a single, short duration, large-amplitude driving point measurement, both linear and nonlinear properties can be determined; both large-amplitude and near-zero amplitude properties can be determined; and elastic-wave speed and elastic moduli and their variation with depth can be determined. The present invention also provides a system and a method to filter an input signal to either attenuate or preserve each of one or more selected harmonic components that are harmonics of a phase reference signal.

Scanning laser ophthalmoscope optimized for selective retinal microphotocoagulation

A combination of a confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope and external laser sources is used for microphotocoagulation purposes. An opto-mechanical linkage device and beamsplitter is used to align the pivot point of the Maxwellian view of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope with the pivot point of non-scanning external laser beams. The same pivot point is necessary to minimize wavefront aberrations and to enable precise focussing of a therapeutic laser beam on the retina. An AOM and / or two-dimensional AOD can be inserted in the pathway of the Gaussian therapeutic beam to control intensity and spatial pattern of small and short-duration pulses. The location of the external laser beam on the retina is determined with the help of two synchronized detectors and image processing. One detector is used to localize moving fiducial landmarks of the retina. A second detector is used to locate on the retina the external laser aiming beam. Two different confocal apertures are used. Polarizing the aiming beam is necessary to further reduce unwanted reflections from the anterior corneal surface.

Time resolved laser raman spectroscopy using a single photon avalanche diode array

A Raman spectrometer that employs a time-gated single photon avalanche diode array as a sensor is described. The spectrometer can also perform fluorescence spectroscopy and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). A laser is used to provide an excitation signal to excite a specimen of interest. A spectrometer is used to separate the various intensities over a range of wavelengths, which are then caused to impinge on the array to be recorded. The time-gated single photon avalanche diode array is triggered in synchrony with the excitation signal so as to allow time resolution of the response of the sample of interest to the excitation. The array can be time-gated to resolve signals that have shorter durations as a function of time while excluding signals that have a longer time duration. Raman and LIBS signals can be observed even from specimens that fluoresce strongly.

Ultra wide bandwidth communications method and system

An ultra wide bandwidth, high speed, spread spectrum communications system uses short wavelets of electromagnetic energy to transmit information through objects such as walls or earth. The communication system uses baseband codes formed from time shifted and inverted wavelets to encode data on a RF signal. Typical wavelet pulse durations are on the order of 100 to 1000 picoseconds with a bandwidth of approximately 8 GHz to 1 GHz, respectively. The combination of short duration wavelets and encoding techniques are used to spread the signal energy over a an ultra wide frequency band such that the energy is not concentrated in any particular narrow band (e.g. VHF: 30-300 MHz or UHF: 300-1000 MHz) and is not detected by conventional narrow band receivers so it does not interfere with those communication systems. The use of pulse codes composed of time shifted and inverted wavelets gives the system according to the present invention has a spatial resolution on the order of 1 foot which is sufficient to minimize the negative effects of multipath interference and permit time domain rake processing.

Character recognition system and method based on combination of neural network and attention mechanism

The invention claims to protect a character recognition system and method based on the combination of a neural network and an attention mechanism, the system comprising: a convolution neural network feature extraction module, which is used for spatial feature of character image; The spatial features extracted by the convolution neural network are input to the bi-directional long-short memory network module, and the bi-directional long-short memory network can extract the sequence features of characters. The extracted feature vectors are semantically encoded, and then the attention weights of feature vectors are assigned through the attention mechanism, so that the attention is focused on the feature vectors with higher weights. In the decoding part of the model, the features extracted fromattention and the prediction information of the previous time are used as the inputs of the nested long-short memory network. The purpose of using the long-short memory network is to keep the temporal characteristics of the eigenvectors and make the attention points of the model constantly change with time. In the decoding part, the features extracted from attention and the prediction informationof the previous time are used as the inputs of the nested long-short memory network. The invention can more accurately detect the text area in the natural scene, and has good detection effect on thesmall target text and the text with small tilt angle.
