A method for preparing hemihydrate gypsum whiskers, the method comprising: selecting desulfurized gypsum as a raw material; drying the selected desulfurized gypsum to remove free water therein; grinding the dried desulfurized gypsum into fine powder shape; sieve the desulfurized gypsum after grinding to remove large particles of impurities; add the sieved desulfurized gypsum to hydrochloric acid of a certain concentration, stir and mix it into a slurry, and mix the slurry at a certain temperature carrying out the reaction; after the atmospheric pressure hydrothermal reaction is completed, the slurry is subjected to suction filtration; the filter cake obtained after the suction filtration is washed with an organic solvent; and the washed filter cake is dried to obtain hemihydrate gypsum whiskers. The hemihydrate gypsum whiskers prepared by the method of the present application have an aspect ratio of up to 300, a uniform diameter, and no lattice defects such as dislocations and stacking.
