A present ventilator
system for detecting and treating concurrent chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (
COPD) and overlap syndrome of
obstructive sleep apnea (OSA events) includes a pressure generator for generating a pressurized flow of breathable gas for delivery to an
airway of a subject, a sensor(s) for generating an output
signal conveying information related to a parameter of the breathable gas, and a processor(s) operably connected to the sensor(s) and the pressure generator, configured to detect the presence of an OSA event and / or expiratory
flow limitation (EFL) in the subject based on the output
signal. In response to detecting the concurrent presence of an OSA event and EFL, the processor is configured to determine an OSA event therapy parameter for treating the detected OSA event in the subject, determine an EFL therapy parameter for treating the detected EFL in the subject, determine a priority treatment based on a comparison between the OSA event therapy parameter and the EFL therapy parameter, and control the pressure generator to deliver the determined priority treatment.
