Embodiment 1

[0014] Example 1. The initial mixture used to produce the prosthetic heart valve cusp is prepared for loading into the molding machine. The mixture is prepared by grinding 86% by weight of polyamide and 14% by weight of barium sulfate with one another while stirring thoroughly. The resulting mixture was loaded into the hot barrel of the molding machine and heated up to 230°C. The hot melt was extruded into a mold with a surface temperature of 75°C. After 15 seconds of curing, the cast was opened and the formed valve cusp model was pushed out onto the soft substrate at room temperature and standard atmospheric pressure. After the cast molding has been sufficiently performed, the valve cusp is produced without additional dimensional perfection and surface machining (trimming).

[0015] Taking into account the dimensional tolerances of its production, the valve cusps thus produced (regardless of subsequent expansion) are matched with each annular valve sleeve, so as to exclude...

Embodiment 2

[0016] Example 2. An initial mixture was prepared as in the previous example, but with the addition of acetylene black. The mixture of polymer composites contained 80% by weight polyamide, 18% by weight barium sulfate, and 2% by weight acetylene black. The molds were made to a mold size 2% smaller than required. The temperature of the mixture before extrusion into the mold was 240°C, and the temperature of the surface of the mold was 80°C. After curing, the valve cusp was pushed out of the cast into a heparin solution heated to 38° C. and matured there for 3 hours so that expansion occurred. The produced valve cusps require no further processing before being installed in the sleeve of the artificial heart valve.

[0017] The production of valve cusps by casting from polymer composites allows to significantly increase the processing rate and reduce the processing costs for producing artificial heart valves.

Abstract

The invention relates to medical engineering and can be used for producing artificial cardiac valves provided with one or more cusps made of a polymer composite. The inventive method for producing a cusp for an artificial cardiac valve consists in producing a casting mould and in moulding a cusp from a polymer composite containing 78-92 mass% polyamide and 8-22 mass% X-ray contrast substance dispersed therein. Said polymer composite can also contain a fine-dispersed acetylene carbon black in a quantity of 1.2 mass%. The preferred X-ray contrast substance is embodied in the form of barium sulphate. In one of the variants for carrying out said method, a casting mould is formed according to a cast product dimensions which are by 1-2% less that the required dimensions and the moulded cusp is placed in an anticoagulant solution and is maintaine therein until it is swallen by 1-5%.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to medical technology that can be used to produce artificial heart valves. Background of the invention [0002] Prosthetic heart valves may comprise one, two, or more valve cusps with paired protrusions for securing in the valve casing. During valve operation, the greatest mechanical loads fall on those protrusions. [0003] The method of producing artificial heart valve tips from titanium alloy with high temperature carbon coating is known (Russian patent 2012284, 1994). However, valve cusps made of double-layer materials do not have sufficient reliability for long-term continuous operation. In addition, metal-to-metal friction problems occur when installing the cusp protrusions in the cuff receptacle. [0004] Also known is a method of producing valve cusps by obtaining a high-temperature carbon layer of controlled thickness on the surface of a graphite substrate as follows: Decomposition of the carbon compounds o...
