example 1
[0060] A solution was prepared containing 120 mg (milligrams) of polyvinyl alcohol (a water soluble polymer) and 1680 mg of zinc chloride (a deliquescent material and an electroactive soluble material) in 1.2 ml (milliliters) of water. This solution has a viscous state like glue. A 4.5 cm (centimeter) x 7 cm strip of filter paper is completely wetted with this solution by printing or dipping techniques. A mixture of 300 mg of zinc powder and the above solution was prepared and printed on one side of a paper strip as the negative layer. On the other side was printed a mixture of 250mg of manganese dioxide and 50mg of conductive carbon powder with the above solution, which was used as the positive layer. Current is measured when both sides are used as electrical contact and connected to a load. per cm at 1.7÷1.2 volts 2 (cm2) of 12 microamperes can easily be maintained continuously for five days at room temperature.
example 2
[0062] An open cell was prepared as described above in Example 1 and connected to a voltmeter. As shown in Figure 4, measurements of the voltage produced by the battery at room temperature revealed a pronounced voltage of 1.7÷1.2 volts maintained for 9 consecutive days.
example 3
[0064] A saturated potassium hydroxide solution is prepared and made glue-like by mixing with a water-soluble polymer. Completely wet the porous substance (such as filter paper) with this solution and apply a mixture of the solution and nickel oxide powder on one side of the porous substance to form the positive electrode layer, and apply a similar mixture with cadmium powder on the other side of the porous substance To form the negative layer, a voltage of 1.2 volts was measured by connecting a voltmeter to both sides and a high current was measured when the two layers were in contact on a load. The battery will not dry out when open and can be recharged when desired.
