46 results about "Catalytic heater" patented technology

A catalytic heater is a flame-less heater which relies on catalyzed chemical reactions to break down molecules and produce heat. When the catalyst, natural gas, and oxygen combine together they ignite at a low enough temperatures that a flame doesn’t need to be involved. This process keeps repeating itself until either oxygen or the fuel source is taken out of the equation.

Infrared deicing system for aircraft

Flameless infrared catalytic heater units are mounted in a generally wing-shaped carrier for positioning above surfaces of an aircraft. The carrier is attached to a boom end extending from a truck or other suitable self-propelled ground equipment. A temperature sensor bounces an infrared signal off the aircraft surface and inputs the skin temperature into a micro-controller regulating the output of the infrared heater units. The micro controller maintains a desired safe skin temperature sufficient to melt ice and snow from the aircraft surfaces without blistering the paint or raising concern about temperatures within fuel tanks. The catalytic heater units use inexpensive natural gas or propane. Use of this system substitutes for expensive and hazardous ethylene glycol solutions heretofore sprayed over the aircraft.

Apparatus for heating and curing powder coatings on porous wood products

An improved apparatus is provided for curing powdered coatings on the face of porous wood products, such as medium density fiberboard (MDF), wherein a pair of inclined infrared catalytic heaters are used to apply heat directly onto the side edges of the board. In addition, catalytic heaters that are normally used to heat and cure the face surface of the board are moved father back to reduce their effectiveness and to limit out-gassing of entrapped air from the inner low density core of the board. This arrangement also allows the coating to cure at the side edges of the board at approximately the same rate as the face of the board, promoting a more uniform curing of the powder coating.

Catalytic heater

A catalytic heating system comprising a main catalyst (20, 50) for flameless catalytic burning of fuel gas and a triggering system for initiating the catalytic burning, the triggering system comprising an electrical power source electrically connected to a metallic catalyst portion (104). As electric current flows through the metallic catalyst portion, it is in itself heated as an electric resistance heater to a temperature necessary for triggering the catalytic burning. By using electrical current for direct heating of a catalyst portion, reaction starts as soon as the resistance heating achieves the temperature for initiating the catalytic reaction. As soon as the reaction starts, it is transferred to the main catalyst.
