A catalytic heating system comprising a main catalyst (20, 50) for flameless catalytic burning of fuel gas and a triggering system for initiating the catalytic burning, the triggering system comprising an electrical power source electrically connected to a metallic catalyst portion (104). A catalytic tank heater includes a removably attached catalytic heater cartridge having catalytic material. The heater is attached to an LPG tank to position the catalytic heater cartridge to face the tank. The catalytic heater cartridge covers a plenum chamber of the catalytic tank heater. A method and fuel composition for pre-heating and/or operating a catalytic heater is described herein. In one aspect, there is provided a method of preheating a catalyst in a catalytic heater comprising the steps of: providing a preheat composition comprising greater than 60% by volume hydrogen and at least one fluid component selected from natural gas, propane, butane, refinery off gas, ethylene off gas, methanol, ethanol, butanol, liquefied biogas and mixtures thereof; and contacting the catalyst with the preheat composition for a period of time sufficient to raise the temperature of the catalyst to a one or more temperatures. In this or other embodiments, there is a fuel composition that comprises at least one component selected from natural gas, propane, butane and mixtures thereof and optionally hydrogen.

Methods and apparatus for controlling fecal odors in an enclosed space, such as a pit latrine, include providing an oxidizer, such as a catalytic heater and an optional mechanical ventilation unit, such as an inline fan, both flow connected to a vault (pit) of the latrine. The heat supply device based on the methanol catalyst heating has the beneficial effects that in the heat supply device, a methanol catalytic heater is a flameless heating device, a generated exhaust gas after the catalytic reaction is only carbon dioxide, and the heat supplydevice based on the methanol catalyst heating is reliable to use, safe and free of pollution.

The invention discloses a combined heat and power system based on a reforming hydrogen production device and fuel cells. The system comprises the reforming hydrogen production device and the fuel cellstack; a reformed gas is conveyed to a heat supply heat exchanger; the heat supply heat exchanger provides heat for the outside; the electric energy of the fuel cell stack is outputted through an electric energy converter; a reforming electric heater and a reforming heat exchanger are arranged in the reforming hydrogen production device; the reforming electric heater is connected with the electric energy converter; electric power required for starting the reforming hydrogen production device and the fuel cell stack is provided by an external electric power source; the reforming electric heater provides heat energy for the hydrogen production of the reforming hydrogen production device; and tail gas outputted by the fuel cell stack is conveyed into a catalytic heater or conveyed into a carbon catcher provided with a compressor. The system of the invention has the advantages of high power generation efficiency, high energy utilization rate and low emission of nitrogen oxide and carbon oxide.
