Specifically, an impermeable or permeable overtopping dam core is built by using reinforced concrete, and the foundation of the dam core is embedded in the ground, thereby meeting the stability requirements of the ecological overtopping dam; and stone ripraps are piled at the two sides of the overtopping dam core on the ground, and the stone ripraps are covered with a wire box or continuously wedged into timber piles along two sidelines of the bottom margin of the overtopping dam, thereby meeting the stability conditions of the stone ripraps. Through the construction of the ecological overtopping dam, the effect of falling-water aeration can be improved, and a living/perching space can be provided for aquatic creatures, thereby improving the self cleaning capacity of water. The ecological overtopping dam and construction method thereof provided by the invention are simple and quick, low in cost, convenient in operation and maintenance and wide in application range, embody the concepts of contemporary near-natural water resource engineering, and can be applied to the construction on overtopping dams for rivers, reservoirs and scenic water.
