A mobile platform interior panel is provided that includes a body formed by a low pressure injection process and at least one of a duct and a layer of insulation integrated with the body. The low pressure injection process allows the duct and insulation to be integrated with the body simultaneously with the forming of the panel. More specifically, the duct is integrated with the panel by forming at least one internal cavity within the panel as the panel is formed. Additionally, the insulation is integrated with the panel by forming the panel using a low pressure injection material having desired insulative properties.

Structures based upon periodic cellular materials that provide a potential for defeating combinations of both air blast loading and ballistic attack either sequentially or simultaneously, or combination of both. The cellular structures may also be configured to meet the stiffness and strength support requirements of particular vehicle or other applications, systems or structures. A class divider for an aircraft passenger cabin is provided. The class divider includes a partition positioned immediately aft of a rear row of seats in a first predetermined class area of the aircraft cabin and an aft-facing panel having a width and height generally corresponding to a width and height of the rear row of seats. Pultruded panels having a first longitudinal edge profile and a second longitudinal edge profile may be used to form a floor assembly mounted on a railway car underframe. The pultruded panels may also be used to form walkways, bridges, piers and other structures. The invention relates to a shock absorber (100), in particular for use as an additional irreversible shock-absorbing stage together with a component for transferring force. In order to achieve the reliable dissipating of high impact energies, a shock absorber (100) comprising the following is indicated in accordance with the invention: a base plate (1); a force-transferring element (3) having a tensioning element (4); an energy-absorbing element in the form of a deformation tube (5) which is connected by a first end section to the base plate (1); and a connecting element (6) for the disengageable connecting of the force-transferring element (3) to a second end section of the deformation tube (5), wherein the connecting element (6) is pressed against the tensioning element (4) such that the deformation tube (5) is braced between the tensioning element (4) and the base plate (1) without play.

A seating arrangement with improved seating comfort is disclosed. In one embodiment, the seating arrangement is for a transportation vehicle. The arrangement includes seats at least having two levels adjacent to single-level seats. The multi-level seats include at least a bottom row of seats and a top row of seats. In one embodiment, the bottom row seats are on a floor; and there is an imaginary horizontal plane that is parallel to the floor, and that at least a part of the top row seats and at least a part of the bottom row seats intersect. The single-level seats include at least two rows, with at least one seat in each row being adjacent to the aisle, to allow passengers to access the single-level seats. In another embodiment, a seating arrangement includes only multi-level seats. In yet another embodiment, a computer-implemented method is applicable to the seats, such as allowing the display of a visual representation of a top-row seat and a bottom-row seat.

A mobile platform crew rest system includes a mobile platform having a plurality of frames and a longitudinal centerline. A plurality of bunk modules each have longitudinal module walls joined to a closed end wall. Each bunk module is individually supported by the frames. The bunk modules are configured in at least one of a first group of athwartship oriented modules and a second group of fore-aft oriented modules. A passageway is supported from the bunk modules. The passageway includes at least one segment and a passageway centerline longitudinally offset from the mobile platform longitudinal centerline.

Designs for a battery-powered, all-electric locomotive and related locomotive and train configurations are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, a locomotive may be driven by a plurality of traction motors powered exclusively by a battery assembly which preferably comprises rechargeable batteries or other energy storage means. The locomotive carries no internal combustion engine on board and receives no power during operation from any power source external to the locomotive. A battery management system monitors and equalizes the batteries to maintain a desired state of charge (SOC) and depth of discharge (DOD) for each battery. A brake system may be configured to prioritize a regenerative braking mechanism over an air braking mechanism so that substantial brake energy can be recovered to recharge the battery assembly. Many locomotive or train configurations involving battery-powered or battery-toting locomotive(s) may be implemented. In one embodiment, a battery-toting locomotive is directly coupled with and positioned between two diesel-electric locomotives, wherein the batteries recover energy from regenerative braking and/or supply power to drive traction motors.

A flame retardant panel apparatus, and method, utilize a flame retardant panel, having an exterior and an interior face thereof, with the panel including a panel structure having a primary core encapsulated within a panel frame of reinforced phenolic material, and a layer of flame retardant material attached to the panel structure and extending outwardly therefrom to at least partially define an exterior face of the flame retardant panel. A method of fabricating an electrostatic actuator with an intrinsic stress gradient is provided. An electrode is formed on a substrate and a support layer is formed over the electrode. A metal layer is deposited onto the support layer via a deposition process. Deposition process conditions are varied in order to induce a stress gradient into the metal layer. The intrinsic stress in the metal layer increases in the direction from the bottom to the top of the metal layer. The support layer under the electrode is removed to release the electrostatic actuator.

An improved mathematically modeled family of bellow fold patterns, useful for making bellows from stiff but foldable materials, which forms a corner of a bellow consisting of a series of several single inversion fold patterns, each having a characteristic design angle which is mathematically computed to provide a desired initial wall angle for the bellow and to minimize wall tilting over a predetermined extension angle range, thereby allowing low cost bellows to be made which can extend long distances while using a minimal amount of stiff but foldable material. In addition, each characteristic design angle can be computed to provide exactly zero tilting of the bellow walls at one or more non-zero extension lengths specified by a designer, thus allowing, unlike all other prior art folds, a structurally stiff, long extending bellow to be formed in an extended state using fast production techniques such as vacuum forming, blow molding or injection molding, while also allowing the bellow to be free of distortion in the compressed state.

The present invention relates to a flame retardant epoxy prepreg composite material and its preparation method and its use, the composite material contains 20 to 70% of epoxy resin matrix and 30-80% of fiber reinforced materials; wherein the epoxy resin matrix comprises the following components by mass part: 100 parts of an F type epoxy resin, 10-50 parts of an E type epoxy resin, 5-40 parts of tetrabromobisphenol A, 5-20 parts of a curing agent, 1-10 parts of a curing accelerator, 5-25 parts of a toughening agent, 1-10 parts of antimonous oxide and 20-80 parts of an organic solvent. According to the invention, F46 type epoxy resin containing a rigid frame structure is taken as a main component, the flame retarding and toughening modification are carried out on the resin matrix by a combination technology, the epoxy composite material with high toughness, high flame retardancy and good overlaying manufacturability can be realized, the flue gas density is obviously decreased when the flame is carried out, and the epoxy prepreg composite material possesses important popularization and application prospects in the fields of large aircraft, ships, high-speed rails and the like.
