A passenger rail car includes a lower passenger compartment that includes a plurality of passenger seats. The passenger rail car also includes an upper passenger compartment that includes a plurality of passenger seats. A control cab for a rail car operator is elevated above the floor of the lower passenger compartment, and is located forward of the passenger seats and behind the crash energy management region. The front end of the passenger rail car may be slanted to provide a greater field of view for the rail car operator.

Pultruded panels having a first longitudinal edge profile and a second longitudinal edge profile may be used to form a floor assembly mounted on a railway car underframe. The pultruded panels may also be used to form walkways, bridges, piers and other structures. A bead may be placed on at least one of the longitudinal edge profiles to form a gap between an adjacent pultruded panel. An adhesive may be placed within the gap to couple or bond adjacent pultruded panels with each other. Void spaces may be formed within the pultruded panel and filled with foam to provide improved resistance to heat transfer through the respective panel. Respective coverings may be placed on opposite ends of each panel to block access to the associated void spaces.

An insulated cargo container is composed of an underframe, a floor, a first side wall, a second side wall, a roof, and at least one door being connected together to form an enclosure. Insulative panels mountable to the exterior of a railway boxcar, and railway boxcars having exterior insulative panels are disclosed. The invention relates to a shock absorber (100), in particular for use as an additional irreversible shock-absorbing stage together with a component for transferring force. In order to achieve the reliable dissipating of high impact energies, a shock absorber (100) comprising the following is indicated in accordance with the invention: a base plate (1); a force-transferring element (3) having a tensioning element (4); an energy-absorbing element in the form of a deformation tube (5) which is connected by a first end section to the base plate (1); and a connecting element (6) for the disengageable connecting of the force-transferring element (3) to a second end section of the deformation tube (5), wherein the connecting element (6) is pressed against the tensioning element (4) such that the deformation tube (5) is braced between the tensioning element (4) and the base plate (1) without play.

Disclosed is a window assembly for use in mass transit vehicles which allows the quick and easy removal and replacement of transparent sacrificial glazing panels which protect the glazing of the window from vandalism and wear. The window assembly utilizes a sacrificial protective panel and mounting arrangement which allows quick and easy replacement of protective panels on one or both sides of the window assembly, but inhibits removal by non-maintenance personnel such as vandals. The frame of the window assembly incorporates one or more retainers which fit into slots along the interior sides of the window frame and sandwich the glazing between the frame and the retainers. In turn, the retainers are essentially “locked” into position in the frame by an inner protective panel, which significantly inhibits the removal of the retainers from the window assembly when the protective panel is in its desired position against the windowpane. Once the inner protective panel is removed from the window assembly, however, the retainers and glazing can quickly and easily be removed from the frame, allowing the glazing and any remaining protective panels to be quickly and easily removed from the frame. Alternatively, the sacrificial panel may be retained by an integrally formed recess defined by the frame.

An injection molded windshield is provided for a vehicle. The injection molded acrylic or polycarbonate windshield enables vehicle shape design flexibility while achieving lower aerodynamic drag. The injection molded windshields offer additional benefits for the crew by increasing visibility area with larger windshields while reducing aero noise. The vehicle includes a body and an injection molded window attached to the body. The injection molded windshield is shaped to conform to the fuselage. The injection molded windshield is formed of at least one of an injection molded acrylic or polycarbonate material. The injection molded windshield is impact and ballistic tolerant.

A side construction 302 has an outside sheathing 306 and outside sheathing reinforcement members 307A and 307B joined to the outside sheathing 306 interiorly of the outside sheathing 306. The invention relates to a rail vehicle body of the type comprising a grid structure, itself comprising longitudinal elements and cross elements interconnected at nodes, and supporting outer and inner coverings. Longitudinal and cross elements are circular section tubes. At at least some of its nodes, the grid structure comprises connections for interconnecting longitudinal and cross tubes of circular section. These connections have longitudinal and cross circular section sleeves which receive longitudinal and cross tubes respectively. Longitudinal tubes pass right through the connections made of longitudinal and cross tubes.

A window assembly for a mass transit vehicle adapted to receive a transparent protective member to be positioned adjacent an inner surface of a piece of window glazing by a set of retaining brackets that provide rapid removal of the member without having to remove the retaining brackets. The retaining brackets enclose all four edges of the vehicle window glazing and incorporate a defined space between the window glazing an the inner surface of the retaining brackets. The protective member is positioned within the defined space and can be moved between a secured position and a release position.

The disclosure provides in one embodiment a method of insulating a structural frame member of a transport vehicle. The method comprises providing at least one flexible insulation member. The method further comprises providing at least two self-retaining foam insulation members. The method further comprises wrapping the flexible insulation member over a first end of a structural frame member of a transport vehicle and over at least portions of two sides of the structural frame member. The method further comprises positioning one self-retaining foam insulation member on each side of the wrapped structural frame member and in compression fit between each side of the wrapped structural frame member and adjacent structural frame members, such that the self-retaining foam insulation members impart one or more compression forces on the flexible insulation member to secure the flexible insulation member in place without use of any fastener device.

The present invention describes laminate articles comprising a stiff, low-color PVB sheet having a YID of less than 12 and having a low concentration of plasticizer in the PVB composition, wherein the sheet is prepared from a composition that includes a PVB bleaching compound. A sheet of the present invention is useful for making glass laminates useful for parts in making cars, boats, trains, buildings, display cases, and other articles that utilize transparent glass laminates.

An aircraft fuselage including at least two sections kept assembled at a circumferential join, each section having at least one panel. The circumferential join includes at least one inner ring, situated on one face, called the inner face, of the fuselage. The inner ring has a width li, partially overlaps each of the two panels and is fixed to the two panels by fasteners. The fuselage also includes an outer ring, situated on one face, called the outer face, of the fuselage, opposite to the inner face. A lateral face of a rail vehicle body is provided including a framework which is formed by an assembly of a plurality of adjacent panels and an outer skin which is adhesively-bonded to the framework and which extends over at least two adjacent panels, the assembly of panels and the skin forming a laminated assembly, each panel including ribs which are arranged so as to ensure the vertical rigidity and the horizontal rigidity of the lateral face. The outer skin extends over the entire length of the lateral face.
