[0020] The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the disclosure, application, or uses. With respect to the methods disclosed, the order of the steps presented is exemplary in nature and, therefore, no requirement or immateriality is required unless otherwise disclosed.

[0021]The following plant species have been found to inhibit or kill resistant bacteria: Acinetobacter baumannii, Bacillus subtilis, Burkholderia cepacia group, Candida albicans, Enterococcus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis , Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella, Shigella, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, or Vibrio cholerae.

[0022] It was found that rosemary essential oil at a concentration of 5% inhibited four strains of multidrug resistant bacteria and clove essential oil at a concentration of 1.25% inhibited four strains of multidrug resistant bacteria. The chemical component of rosemary esse...

Abstract

Drug-resistant pathogens have led to disease and expense for health care, agriculture, and food industries. Synthetic chemicals have become less effective at killing antibiotic-resistant pathogens and there is not likely going to be the development of new antibiotics in the future. This disclosure provides for a combination broad-spectrum antibiotic using a combination of plant extracts that protect from drug-resistant pathogens.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to antibiotics, and more particularly, to antibiotic additives. Background technique [0002] People and products need to be protected from pathogens. Bacteria, yeasts and fungi can cause disease, spoil products and spoil food. Natural chemicals can inhibit and kill the microbes that cause these problems. Historically, salves were made by soaking herbs in oil or blending them with beeswax. These are applied topically or applied to wounds. Food is preserved using spices. Before the scientific method, there was no way to determine the effectiveness of an ointment or fragrance other than clinical experience. Without a microscope, there is only limited knowledge of disease-associated microorganisms. Domesticated cultivars of herbs, flowers, fruits and berries are cultivated for their size and intensity of smell and taste. Chemical concentrations are determined by taste and smell, and herbs, flowers, and fruits that gen...
