[0102] The invention is further illustrated by the examples set forth below.

[0103] Samples of a synthetic roofing membrane (ie, FTSynthetics Platinum) were coated with 16 mils of two butyl rubber-based adhesives, Formulations 1 and 2.

[0104] Preparation 1 contains:

[0105] 22.1 wt% butyl rubber, sold as Butyl 268 by ExxonMobil, having a Mooney viscosity (ML1+8, 125°C);

[0106] 38.8 wt% polybutene plasticizer sold as Indopol H-300 by Ineos Corp. and having a molecular weight (Mn) of 1300 g / mol;

Abstract

A roof liner capable of adhering to a roof panel, the liner comprising: (a) a roof membrane having a first major surface and a second major surface; and (b) a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on the first major surface of the roofing membrane and comprising: (i) at least one of butyl rubber or polyisobutylene; (ii) a first liquid plasticizer, preferably polybutylene; and (iii) a tackifier, wherein the adhesive has a Tg of up to about 100 C. The adhesive provides high bond strength and excellent long-term thermal aging resistance, weather resistance, and good low temperature characteristics while providing moisture resistant seams. A method for manufacturing the roof liner includes applying the adhesive to the film and then applying a release liner on the adhesive layer. A method for using the roof liner includes removing the release liner and then adhering the liner to the roof panel by contacting the first with the roof panel.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. §119(e) to U.S. Patent Application No. 62 / 891,710, filed August 26, 2019. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a roof underlayment using an adhesive that can be used to adhere such underlayments to roof panels. In particular, the present invention relates to roof underlayments using adhesive compositions that are pressure sensitive and can be used to apply roofing membranes in a peel-and-stick manner. Background technique [0004] There are two broad types of roof applications. The first is commercial roofing applications, where the roofline tends to be flat or have a relatively low slope. In commercial roofing applications, roofing sheets such as ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM), butyl rubber, neoprene, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyethylene, thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and modified Bitumens) are often used as single-ply roofin...
