A system and method for automatically applying a gel coat brush stroke pattern over an image surface secured to a support is described. A liquid gel applicator dispenses a predetermined quantity of transparent liquid gel on the image surface. According to principles of the present invention, a hands-free cleaning apparatus enables a user to clean roller pads of various pad lengths and / or paintbrushes using a single apparatus. In one embodiment, for example, the cleaning apparatus includes a main housing and a lid. An attachment mechanism is preferably provided on the lid or main housing to receive and retain a roller pad or a brush in a desired position and relationship within the cleaning apparatus. A spraying mechanism having one or more spray nozzles is preferably arranged in the housing to spray water (or other cleaning solution) on the pad or brush in a desired manner. A hose attachment can supply water to the apparatus. The spraying mechanism preferably receives water from an attached hose. The spray tips or nozzles are preferably provided at desired locations along the spraying mechanism to provide a desired spray pattern for spinning and cleaning the pad or brush. The invention relates to a method and assembly for storing a paintbrush having a bristle portion and a handle portion. The bristle portion has an associated maximum width and a plurality of bristles having a plurality of ends. The invention involves (a) engaging an enclosable portion of the paintbrush including the bristle portion of the paintbrush using a first body portion; and, (b) moving a second body portion relative to the first body portion between an open position and a closed position. In the open position, the first body portion and the second body portion provide an open side for inserting and removing the enclosable portion of the paintbrush. In the closed position, the first body portion engages the second body portion to enclose the open side, to closely enclose the enclosed portion of the paintbrush, and to provide a base portion for bordering and protecting the plurality of ends to the plurality of bristles.
