Abstract

The invention relates to a method for processing and utilizing water hyacinth silage, which belongs to the technical field of livestock cultivation. The method overcomes the defects of poor palatability of water hyacinth for feeding livestock directly, high moisture content and difficult silage fermentation. The method comprises the steps of: performing extrusion and dehydration on the water hyacinth, and performing composite ensilage of the dehydrated water hyacinth with energy feed in concentrate supplements in specific ratio; and performing compaction and sealing without adding any exogenous additives and performing anaerobic fermentation for 30 days through the adjustment of microbial fermentation substrates to prepare water hyacinth residue silage for feeding sheep. The silage is mixed with concentrates (namely concentrated feed) deducting the energy feed to prepare total mixed ration for the sheep. The processing method and feeding method of the water hyacinth silage replace the convention feeding method of 'coarse feed' and 'the concentrates' with a method of 'the coarse feed' and 'the concentrated feed'. The method overcomes the defect of difficult silage due to high moisture and low soluble sugar of the water hyacinth, and simultaneously, solves the problem of poor palatability of the water hyacinth.
