Abstract

The invention provides a water absorbing resin capable of reducing acrylic acid residues and a preparation method of the water absorbing resin. The preparation method is characterized by comprising the following steps: neutralizing an aqueous solution of acrylic acid by using liquid caustic soda, and sequentially adding a polymerization monomer, a cross-linking agent, a photoinitiator and an initiator; placing the mixed solution into a water bath or blowing cold air to the mixed solution; carrying out a polymerization reaction on the mixed solution under an ultraviolet lamp to obtain a transparent colloid; and pelleting the colloid, and performing drying and crushing to obtain a product. The preparation method does not need introducing nitrogen to remove oxygen, so that the preparation method is simple in operation; the polymerization efficiency is increased by the interaction among the initiators; the water bath or the cold air can bring away heat generated by polymerization in time so as to enhance the polymerization and cross-linking degrees; and compared with single ultraviolet polymerization and thermal-initiated polymerization, the preparation method is better in cross-linking degree, shorter in polymerization period, free of acrylic acid gas in the polymerization process, more friendly to environment, strong in controllability and low in acrylic acid residues.
