Embodiment 1

[0199] Embodiment 1: Water-based A5B.HCl (A5B, acid dye, telonrubine) promotes para-aramid fiber to nitrile rubber (nitrole butadiene rubber, NBR) adhesion

[0200] A 10% aqueous solution of A5B.HCl was prepared by dissolving A5B monomer (10 g) in a mixture of 1M hydrochloric acid (32 mL, 1.1 equiv) and water (58 mL).

[0201]

[0202] To this solution was added thermal initiator Vazo 56 (0.7 g) and stirred until completely dissolved.

[0203] The para-aramid ( registered trademark) in the above solution and dried at ambient temperature for 10 minutes.

[0204] The coated fabric was placed in a curing oven at 165°C for 10 minutes.

[0205] The nitrile rubber was placed on the cured fabric and placed in a hot press at 165° C. for 10 minutes.

[0206] The assembled samples were then allowed to cool to ambient temperature and tested for peel resistance (T-peel test) on an Instron 3343 tensiometer according to standard method ASTM D 1876-08.

[0207] The peel resistanc...

Embodiment 2

[0208] Example 2: Solvent-Based A5B Promotes Adhesion of Para-Aramid to Nitrile Rubber (NBR)

[0209] For comparison purposes, the experiment described in Example 1 was repeated, but using an equivalent solvent-based A5B system.

[0210] For this, a 10% solution of A5B in MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) was prepared by dissolving A5B (10 g) in MEK (90 ml).

[0211] To this solution was added the thermal initiator dicumyl peroxide (0.7 g) and stirred until complete dissolution.

[0212] The solution was coated onto para-aramid ( registered trademark), and bonded to nitrile rubber in the same manner as described in Example 1.

[0213] The peel resistance of the sample was measured to be 1510 N / m.

Embodiment 3

[0214] Embodiment 3: Aqueous cationic A5S.HCl promotes polyester to ethylene propylene diene monomer (Ethylene Adhesion of Propylene Diene Monomer, EPDM) Rubber

[0215] A 10% aqueous solution of A5S.HCl was prepared by dissolving A5S monomer (10 g) into a mixture of 1 M hydrochloric acid (22 ml, 1.1 equivalents) and water (68 ml).

[0216]

[0217] To this solution was added thermal initiator Vazo 56 (0.7 g) and stirred until completely dissolved.

[0218] The polyester fabric was dipped into the above solution and dried at ambient temperature for 10 minutes.

[0219] The coated fabric was placed in a curing oven at 165°C for 10 minutes.

[0220] EPDM rubber was placed on the cured fabric and placed in a heat press at 165°C for 10 minutes.

[0221] The assembled samples were then allowed to cool to ambient temperature and tested for peel resistance (T-peel test) on an Instron 3343 tensiometer according to standard method ASTM D 1876-08.

Abstract

There is provided a method of treating textile fibers, the method including: a) providing a polymeric precursor including a diallyl amide cationic compound and a corresponding counter ion; b) either (i) coating the textile fibers with the polymeric precursor and polymerising the polymeric precursor to form a polymeric coating, or (ii) polymerising the polymeric precursor and contacting the polymerised polymeric precursor with the textile fibers to form a polymeric coating on the textile fibers. There is also provided a composite structure including a polymeric coating formed from the polymericprecursors of the present invention.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a polymer precursor, a polymer formed from said precursor and a method of coating or treating a substrate comprising applying such a polymer precursor. Background technique [0002] Known adhesives, paints, inks and coatings often contain large amounts of organic solvents. The use of such organic solvents facilitates the application of known coatings to substrates, increases the drying rate after application, and promotes the formation of uniform and regular coatings. After addition, the organic solvent evaporates and releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere. Such releases are harmful to human health and may cause respiratory disease, cancer (especially lung cancer), liver disease, skin and eye allergies, headaches, nausea and muscle weakness. [0003] In addition, VOC is a major factor in the formation of ozone. In addition to the health problems mentioned above, other problems caused by excess...
