Embodiment 1
[0057] In dental practice, clinical tests were performed on patients with periodontitis. 40 patients with periodontitis were randomly selected. Standard treatment of scaling and root planing was given to all 40 patients. 40 patients were divided into two treatment groups, 20 patients in each group. Patients in the first treatment group were given a bioavailable form of silicon in solid form (bioavailable silicic acid) for twice daily oral dosing. Silicon in biological form is available from Bio Minerals N.V., Deisterbergen, Belgium under the tradename Commercially available. This formulation contains choline stabilized orthosilicic acid Among them, choline chloride is used to stabilize silicic acid. The formulation also contains microcrystalline cellulose as a carrier. Solid encapsulated formulations are prepared by extrusion and packaged in high-density polyethylene bottles that are magnetically sealed to ensure constant humidity levels. The remaining 20 patients ser...
Embodiment 2
[0062] A clinical test was performed in a dental practice on periodontitis patients with residual periodontal pockets. Ten patients with periodontitis who had received standard treatment (scaling and root planing) but who had deep periodontal pockets despite standard treatment were randomly selected.
[0063] After standard therapy, all 10 patients were orally administered a solid form of silicon in bioavailable form available from Bio Minerals N.V., Deisterbergen, Belgium under the tradename Commercially available. Treatment was assessed by measuring periodontal pocket depth on probing (PPD) and bleeding o...
Embodiment 3
[0066] Administration of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid to two individual patients with chronic periodontitis A form of bioavailable silicic acid in which choline chloride is used to stabilize the silicic acid. The first patient was a 56-year-old nonsmoking male patient. The second patient was a 36-year-old non-smoking female patient. result in Figure 3A and Figure 3B shown in , where the color provides an indication of the pocket depth. The actual depth is also indicated for each tooth. Data were obtained by measuring the periodontal pocket depth around each tooth in the oral cavity 6 times. In both cases, periodontitis was significantly reduced. Before treatment, the patient had very deep periodontal pockets. After treatment, this was reduced to low depths (less than 3mm).
