An intravenous line component having a body adapted to function as a component (such as a
needleless connector) of an intravenous line configured for providing intravenous access, and an interval
timer integrated into the body. The interval
timer is configured to provide a change in state, such as a visible change in color, after a defined period of time. The defined period of time is selected to correspond to a duration of time after a
start time matched to a prescribed time for replacement of the intravenous line component to mitigate a bacterial
infection risk, e.g., at 72, 96 and / or 168 hours after use in an active IV line. The interval
timer may be configured to change state as a function of a photosensitive, vapor-sensitive, thermosensitive, or other reaction upon
exposure to the environment, by mixing of substances, or by contact with fluid passing through the intravenous line.
