A method and system to facilitate dynamic service negotiation with a uniform and persistent security control plane in a wireless network. In one embodiment of the invention, a node in the wireless network determines each capability provided by each of one or more virtual nodes that it supports and transmits a frame that has information of each capability provided by each of the one or more virtual nodes. By combining all the information of each capability provided by each of the one or more virtual nodes into one frame, the node reduces the volume of management traffic required and increases the available usable channel bandwidth in one embodiment of the invention.

A wireless feeder network comprises feeder base stations coupled to the communications network and feeder terminals coupled to associated access base stations of the access network. A method to setup Quality of Service (QoS) parameters over a wireless network and over a wired network is described herein. A request to setup the QoS parameters may be initiated by a wireless device. The method includes the steps of receiving a first message from the wireless device that includes a first set of QoS parameters requested by the wireless device and determining a second set of QoS parameters for transmission over a wired network corresponding to the first set of QoS parameters. The method further includes the steps of transmitting a second message to a wired device including the second set of QoS parameters and receiving a response to the second message from the wired device that indicates whether the second set of QoS parameters was accepted by the wired device. The method also includes transmitting a response to the first message, based on the response to the second message, to the wireless device indicating whether the first set of QoS parameters are acceptable. A similar method is provided to setup QoS parameters over the wireless network when the initial request is received over the wired network.

In one embodiment, a method of sending data from a first node participating in a session of a collaborative application via a wireless network to a plurality of second nodes participating in the session of the collaborative application via a wired network includes generating a plurality of data streams corresponding to the plurality of second nodes at the first node, reducing the plurality of data streams to a single stream from among the plurality of data streams, and sending the single data stream to a collaboration agent associated with the first node and connected to the wired network.
