FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates to a novel class of linked aromatic compounds that act as potent soot dispersants in lubricating oil compositions and lubricating oil compositions containing same. More specifically, the invention is directed to compounds that, when added to lubricating oil compositions provide soot dispersing performance in the industry standard “Mack T11” engine test, with reduced levels of additive nitrogen. The invention is further directed to a novel class of precursor compounds from which such soot dispersants can be derived.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
