Camera based anti-pinch system

An anti-pinch control system is used to identify obstructions in a path of movement for a powered vehicle member, such as a vehicle window for example. A pinching area is identified for the vehicle window and at least one indicium or indicator is mounted to a vehicle structure to be in view of a camera. The indicium is positioned such that no object may pass into the pinching area without also passing between the camera and at least a portion of the indicium. The camera identifies an obstruction when any portion of the indicium is obscured. This indicium includes a plurality of predefined zones, with each zone being associated with an operational function, such as upward window movement, downward window movement, door locking, side mirror movement, etc. This eliminates the need for separate switches to perform each of these functions thereby reducing overall cost for a vehicle door system.

Method for maintaining the phase difference of a positioning mirror as a constant with respect to a high speed resonant mirror to generate high quality images

System and method for synchronizing the low speed mirror movement of a mirror display system with incoming frame or video signals, and synchronizing buffered lines of video data to the independently oscillating scanning mirror. According to one embodiment of the invention, the peak portions of the low speed cyclic drive signal are synchronized with the incoming frames of video by compressing or expanding the peak portion or turn around portion so that each video frame begins at the same location on the display screen. The actual position of the high frequency mirror is determined by sensors and a “trigger” signal is generated to distribute the signals for each scan line such that the scan lines are properly positioned on the display.

Arrangement for the generation of a pulsed laser beam of high average output

The invention is directed to an arrangement for generating a pulsed laser beam with high average output, in particular for generating a hot plasma which emits extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation. It is the object of the invention to find a novel possibility for generating a laser beam with a high repetition rate and average output which allows the repetition frequency and, therefore, the output of the laser system to be increased by connecting together a plurality of individual lasers having limited repetition rate without degradation of the beam quality on the target compared to that of an individual laser. This object is met, according to the invention, in that an oriented mirror surface is associated with each individual laser in such a way that a beam bundle which is emitted by each individual laser so as to be offset with respect to time and which is reflected at the mirror surface is coupled into a common beam path, and laser pulses in the common beam path are directed to a target one after the other in a regular, defined pulse sequence, and, with a continuously dynamic mirror movement for coupling the laser pulses into the common beam path, optical means are provided in the common beam path for compensating the directional change caused by the mirror movement.

Inline stacker with non-interrupt gap generator and integrated drive control and jam response

An inline stacker receives a shingled stream of printed sheet products from a printing press, or finishing equipment, at line speed. A sheet counter at an infeed conveyor section controls the operation of the inline stacker. The infeed conveyor can pivot to a divert position where it feeds the stream to a bi-directional conveyor. A following gap generator section of the stacker has two conveyors with opposed movable ends that are physically separated in the conveying direction by a small gap. The infeed conveyor and gap generator conveyor sections carry the stream at a substantially constant speed, which can be the line speed. To produce a gap in the shingled stream that defines a bundle size, the movable conveyor ends defining the gap between the conveyor gap generator sections move downstream in unison at the speed of the upstream conveyor. At the same time, the speed of the downstream conveyor is briefly increased. The movable ends and the increased conveyor speed then return to their initial status. Stacks of a predetermined size are collected on a forked elevator with mirror movement side walls and other product movement and position controls. Ball-screw-driven and cam-driven side joggers (at the infeed) align the stack and infeed stream laterally. The ball screw jogger, under control of a central controller and an associated servo motor rotates continuously in one direction to open the side walls in response to a sensed jam. The stacker is portable and mechanized for side lay adjustment to align with the press or finishing equipment.

Mirrors to extend sensor field of view in self-driving vehicles

The technology relates to enhancing or extending the field of view of sensors for vehicles configured to operate in an autonomous driving mode. One or more mirrors are used to reflect or redirect beams emitted from onboard sensors that would otherwise be wasted, for instance due to obstruction by a portion of the vehicle or because they are emitted at high pitch angles to the side. The mirrors are also used to redirect incoming beams from the external environment toward one or more of the onboard sensors. Using mirrors for such redirection can reduce or eliminate blind spots around the vehicle. A calibration system may be employed to account for mirror movement due to vibration or wind drag. Each mirror may be a front surface mirror. The mirrors may be positioned on the vehicle body, on a faring, or extending from a sensor housing on the vehicle.

Method and apparatus for measurement of optical detector linearity

A system for measuring optical detector linearity according to the present invention employs a laser source that illuminates an integrating sphere. The sphere randomizes the laser signal phase and produces a uniform intensity over the sphere output. A collimator expands the sphere output for entry into an interferometer, where the incident optical energy is amplitude modulated in a sinusoidal fashion by a linear mechanical mirror movement. Optical band filters eliminate significant harmonic content being present on a pre-detected optical signal. Sampling of the detected signal energy is performed synchronous to the mechanical mirror position to assure sinusoidal response. The sampled signals are processed to separately determine signal harmonic components attributed to detector non-linearity and multiple laser reflections within the system. The system utilizes at least two measurements at two different laser intensities. An optional third measurement of background radiance may be applied to the first two measurements to enhance accuracy.
