169 results about "Nuts and bolts" patented technology

In physics, in the theory of general relativity, spacetimes with at least a 1-parameter group of isometries can be classified according to the fixed point-sets of the action. Isolated fixed points are called nuts. The other possibility is that the fixed point set is a metric 2-sphere, called bolt. The number of nuts and bolts can also be related to topological invariants, such as the Euler characteristic. This classification is widely used in the analysis of gravitational instantons.

Antenna mounting apparatus

There is disclosed an apparatus for mounting antennas on a utility pole. The apparatus comprises a group of brackets that encircle the utility pole and support the antennas. Each bracket comprises at least one support arm capable of attaching to an antenna and a faceplate that presses against the surface of the utility pole. The apparatus also includes tightening or closure means, such as nut and bolt assemblies, that connect the brackets together. When tightened, the tightening means draw the brackets encircling the utility pole closer together, thereby pressing the faceplates of each bracket more firmly against the utility pole. This clamps the apparatus tightly in place at selected points on the utility pole.

InactiveUS20070256388A1Eliminates and lessens fire dangerIncrease tenant carrying capacityTowersStructural loadEngineering
An assembly for reinforcing a longitudinal section of a pole, includes at least two load transfer rings formed by sleeve segments having radically opposed mating ends. The rings are adapted to fit onto the outer surface of the pole so as to circumferentially encompass the pole. The sleeve segments are connected at their ends by a nut and bolt assembly, wherein tightening of the nut and bolt assembly creates a radial clamping force to squeeze the load transfer rings onto the outer surface of the pole for holding the rings in fixed relation thereon. Elongated stiffener members are fixedly attached to the load transfer rings by a nut and bolt assembly or by welding. The load transfer rings may also be partially welded to the exterior of the pole if structural load bearing demands require additional capacity.

Temperature tolerant vane assembly

A vane assembly 10 suitable for a turbine engine features a refractory vane 12 with an internal cavity 20 and a pair of flexible metallic baffles 26 extending into the cavity from spanwisely opposite ends of the vane. A rigid fastener 48, such as a nut and bolt assembly applies a tensile load to the baffles. The tensile load is reacted out as a compressive load applied to the vane. In another embodiment, the baffle is relatively rigid but the fastener is flexible. The compressive loading exerted on the vane counteracts the brittleness customarily exhibited by refractory materials and imparts damage tolerance to the vane. The arrangement also allows the use of a metal baffle that can be easily secured to the vane and dispenses with any need for a potentially troublesome seal between the baffles and the spanwise extremities of the vane.

A separable fastener for holding two objects together with the use of a bolt threaded into the fastener. The necessary inherent axial tension in the bolt / fastener system is accommodated by a relief element which relieves at least some of the stored tension before the nut separates, thereby reducing the physical shock on the assembly. The energy needed to separate the nut and bolt is entirely contained within the system so that pyrotechnic devices are unnecessary for the purpose.

Secure adjustable strike plate

A strike plate assembly for mounting on a door frame is disclosed. The door frame forms a clearance hole for receiving the strike plate assembly. A mounting plate is affixed to the door frame in the clearance hole. The mounting plate forms an opening for receiving a bolt from a door knob or lock, such as a dead bolt lock, and forms two substantially parallel slots. A strike plate is affixed to the mounting plate. The strike plate also forms an opening for receiving a bolt from a door knob or lock and forms two substantially parallel slots which are at right angles to the two substantially parallel slots of the mounting plate. Each of the parallel slots of strike plate crosses over a corresponding one of the parallel slots of the mounting plate when the strike plate is properly affixed to the mounting plate. A pair of nuts and bolts affix the strike plate to the mounting plate. One bolt fits through each of the parallel slots of the strike plate and the corresponding parallel slot of the mounting plate. The pair of nuts secure the pair of bolts such that the position of the bolts can be adjusted in the parallel slots of the mounting plate and in the parallel slots of the strike plate, allowing the strike plate to be adjusted both vertically and horizontally with respect to the mounting plate. The opening formed by the strike plate substantially overlaps the opening formed by the mounting plate, although the opening formed by the mounting plate would normally be substantially larger than the opening formed by the strike plate.

Adhesive composition and article including the same

ActiveUS20160068726A1Increased formulation versatilityImprove stabilityNutsPretreated surfacesEpoxyAdhesive
An adhesive composition (“composition”) comprises an epoxy resin, a binder, and a curing agent. Typically, the composition further comprises an aqueous solvent (e.g. water) such that the composition can be referred to as an aqueous adhesive composition. The epoxy resin is typically encapsulated to prevent premature cure of the composition. After rupture of the encapsulated epoxy resin, the composition cures to form an adhesive. The composition is useful for articles such as fasteners (e.g. nuts and bolts) such that it can be referred to as a fastener adhesive. Typically, the composition is disposed on a threaded surface of the fastener. The fastener can be used for an assembly in which the composition generally cures after installation of the fastener. To make the fastener, the adhesive composition can be applied on the threaded surface. After application, the composition can be dried in instances where the composition still includes the aqueous solvent.

Wrench for use in limited access areas

A wrench compatible for use in limited access areas is made up of two components. A socket with fluted interior walls cooperates with a handle assembly consisting of a head with complementary fluting on its exterior surface attached to one end of a shaft. The head is inserted into the top of the socket and the shaft is rotated as far as the available space permits. The handle assembly is then lifted upward until the head is separated from the socket, the shaft is thereafter returned to the starting point, the head returned to the socket and rotated again. These steps are repeated until the nut or bolt is tightened or removed. The interior fluting permits the rotation of the socket by small or large increments. Additional embodiments include a spring loaded pin that connects the head of the handle assembly to the socket while assisting the head to be raised a sufficient distance for the head of the handle assembly to be rotated and reseated in the socket. Additional sockets with lower portions having different interior diameters can be used with the same handle assembly for nuts and bolts of smaller and larger diameters. An auxiliary extender and an alternate handle assembly make tight or narrow areas more accessible.
