Strut adjustment in a motorized bone fixation device

In an external fixation device, adjustments in length (contracting or extending a strut) are carried out by respective motorized actuators of the struts, which are programmed to operate according to an actuation plan. In some embodiments, a total required change in length is defined for each of the struts, and based on the intended number of treatment days, a daily change in length is defined for the strut. Then, taking into account the number of intended device actuations per day, a change in length for each actuation is defined. Since the total required change in length may differ for different struts of the same device, the changes in length (whether at a single actuation or as a daily, cumulative change in length) can differ between the different struts.

Schiff base-sulfonated hyaluronic acid light-cured microsphere, preparation method and application

The invention relates to the technical field of biomedical materials. The invention discloses a Schiff base-sulfonated hyaluronic acid light-cured microsphere as well as a preparation method and application thereof. The microspheres are prepared by condensing DL-lysine and paeonol to generate Schiff base, then conjugating the Schiff base with sulfonated hyaluronic acid through a carbodiimide chemical method, and finally molding by adopting a microfluidic technology and carrying out ultraviolet curing. The metal chelation characteristic of Schiff base is combined with the precise structure regulation advantage of the microspheres, and the prepared microspheres show an excellent synergistic effect when applied to the surfaces of implant materials such as degradable magnesium alloy, iron alloy and zinc alloy: the corrosion resistance of a base material can be remarkably improved, an effective protective layer is formed, and the service life of the microspheres is prolonged. Meanwhile, the compound has multiple biological functions of promoting endothelial cell proliferation, inhibiting excessive proliferation of smooth muscle cells and regulating and controlling macrophages to be polarized to anti-inflammatory phenotypes, and has a wide application prospect in the biomedical fields of intravascular stents, bone fixing instruments and the like.

Polylactic acid / zinc-doped hydroxyapatite composite material for bone fixation devices and preparation method and application thereof

This invention provides a polylactic acid / zinc-doped hydroxyapatite composite material for bone fixation devices, its preparation method, and its applications. The invention utilizes a melt blending method to prepare composite materials with different formulation ratios under optimal process conditions. When the zinc-doped hydroxyapatite content is 10%, the composite material exhibits the best thermal stability and mechanical properties (tensile strength of 63.2 MPa). The composite material shows the lowest rate of flexural performance degradation after 20 days of degradation. In vitro degradation experiments demonstrate that the mechanical properties of the composite material can be altered by changing the zinc-doped hydroxyapatite content, and the degradation rate can be modified by changing the zinc-doped hydroxyapatite content to meet the requirements of the implantation site. Cytotoxicity experiments show that an appropriate zinc ion concentration can promote the cell activity of mouse osteoblasts.
