The secondary safety mechanism includes a trigger operatively coupled to a canopy disposed on a rear portion of the firearm holster. The canopy is activated by pushing the thumb lever in a sideways direction which causes the canopy to rotate and open. For quick-release use, the pivotal triggering lever and the trigger may be positioned in proximity to each other such that a user’s thumb can activate both the pivotal triggering lever and the trigger in one fluid motion.

A firearm locking system (100) that can lock a trigger (30) by remote activation by an authorized user using a trigger lock (102) that can block the trigger (30) of a firearm (10) from being pulled sufficiently to fire the firearm (10). The trigger lock (102) can be advanced forward into the locked configuration and retracted into an unlocked configuration with the use of an actuator (110), such as a motor. Tamper-resistant features can be employed to prevent unauthorized users from disabling the firearm locking system (100). For example, when the trigger lock (102) blocks the trigger (30), the trigger lock (102) can also lock the upper receiver (12) from being removed preventing access to the firearm locking system (102) from the top of the firearm (10). The actuator (110) can be detachably connected to the trigger lock (102) such that when the grip (18) is removed, the actuator (110) disconnects from the trigger lock (102) causing the trigger lock (102) to enter a jammed configuration.
