Robust and invariant audio pattern matching

The present invention provides an innovative technique for rapidly and accurately determining whether two audio samples match, as well as being immune to various kinds of transformations, such as playback speed variation. The relationship between the two audio samples is characterized by first matching certain fingerprint objects derived from the respective samples. A set (230) of fingerprint objects (231,232), each occurring at a particular location (242), is generated for each audio sample (210). Each location (242) is determined in dependence upon the content of the respective audio sample (210) and each fingerprint object (232) characterizes one or more local features (222) at or near the respective particular location (242). A relative value is next determined for each pair of matched fingerprint objects. A histogram of the relative values is then generated. If a statistically significant peak is found, the two audio samples can be characterized as substantially matching.

Frame-based audio coding with video/audio data synchronization by dynamic audio frame alignment

Several audio signal processing techniques may be used in various combinations to improve the quality of audio represented by an information stream formed by splice editing two or more other information streams. The techniques are particularly useful in applications that bundle audio information with video information. In one technique, gain-control words conveyed with the audio information stream are used to interpolate playback sound levels across a splice. In another technique, special filterbanks or forms of TDAC transforms are used to suppress aliasing artifacts on either side of a splice. In yet another technique, special filterbanks or crossfade window functions are used to optimize the attenuation of spectral splatter created at a splice. In a further technique, audio sample rates are converted according to frame lengths and rates to allow audio information to be bundled with, for example, video information. In yet a further technique, audio blocks are dynamically aligned so that proper synchronization can be maintained across a splice. An example for 48 kHz audio with NTSC video is discussed.

Delay matching in audio/video systems

An audio / video system comprises an audio signal processing path having an audio path delay and a video signal processing path having a video path delay. The audio path delay may be different from the video path delay. The audio path delay and / or the video path delay may change, for example because of replacement of a component within the audio signal processing path or the video signal processing path. Delay matching (synchronization) in the audio / video system comprises adjusting the audio path delay to be substantially equal to the video path delay. Matching the audio path delay to the video path delay generally includes adding delay to the signal processing path with the lesser delay.

Synchronization of Content from Multiple Content Sources

An event as defined by a place and a time may be captured by multiple devices or individuals. Storing time information in association with the content item allows users to identify content associated with that event or any event. Time data may be provided in varying time bases depending on the network from which time information is determined. Accordingly, all content capturing the same event may be synchronized and aligned appropriately by adjusting the various timing information to a common time base. The synchronization and alignment is facilitated by capturing content using very fine time bases that provides accurate time stamping of content. In one or more arrangements, timing information may be adjusted using a time almanac that uses sample timing data. The content may further be assembled into a content item that provides multiple perspectives of the same event.
