Low-loss inductive couplers for use in wired pipe strings

A first flux-loop inductive coupler element electrically couples with a second flux-loop inductive coupler element. The first flux-loop inductive coupler element comprises a first ring-like core having high magnetic permeability and a conical-section annular first face transverse to the plane of the first core. The first face has a first annular groove separating a first conical-section larger-diameter face and a first conical-section smaller-diameter face. A first coil is wound within the annular groove. The first and second cores form a low-reluctance closed magnetic path around the first coil and a second coil of the second flux-loop inductive coupler element.A first current-loop inductive coupler element electrically couples with a second current-loop inductive coupler element. The first current-loop inductive coupler element has a first high-conductivity, low-permeability shaped belt of a first end of a first pipe joint, a first ring-like core located at the first end, and a first electrically conductive coil wound about the first ring-like core. The first high-conductivity, low-permeability shaped belt partially encloses the first coil. It is shaped to cooperate with the second high-conductivity, low-permeability shaped belt of an adjacent second pipe joint having a second electrically conductive coil and a second high-conductivity, low-permeability shaped belt to create a closed toroidal electrical conducting path. The closed toroidal electrical conducting path encloses the first coil and the second coil when the first and second pipe joints are mated.

High pressure capillary connector

A high pressure connector capable of operating at pressures of 40,000 psi or higher is provided. This connector can be employed to position a first fluid-bearing conduit that has a proximal end and a distal end to a second fluid-bearing conduit thereby providing fluid communication between the first and second fluid-bearing conduits. The connector includes (a) an internal fitting assembly having a body cavity with (i) a lower segment that defines a lower segment aperture and (ii) an interiorly threaded upper segment, (b) a first member having a first member aperture that traverses its length wherein the first member aperture is configured to accommodate the first fluid-bearing conduit and wherein the first member is positioned in the lower segment of the internal fitting assembly, and (c) a second member having a second member aperture that traverses its length wherein the second member is positioned in the upper segment of the fitting assembly and wherein a lower surface of the second member is in contact with an upper surface of the first member to assert a compressive force onto the first member and wherein the first member aperture and the second member aperture are coaxial.

Expandable garden hose

A flexible garden hose having an inner tube member made from elastic material and an outer tube member made from a non-elastic material. The inner tube member is secured to the outer tube member only at an inlet coupler and an outlet coupler. The inlet coupler is constructed to secure to a water supply provided from a conventional household water spigot. The outlet coupler is coupled to a flow restrictor allowing the inner tube member to equalize in pressure with pressurized water received from the water supply. Pressurized water expands the elongated inner tube member longitudinally along a length of the inner tube member and laterally across a width of the inner tube member thereby substantially increasing the length of the hose to an expanded condition wherein the hose contracts to a substantially decreased length when there is a decrease in pressurized water.

Pipe coupling

A pipe coupling for connecting pipes having unprofiled end sections includes an elastomeric sealing gasket for holding the unprofiled pipe end sections in a sealed manner. A clamping clip surrounds the sealing gasket. The clamping clip includes a clip strap having a first end and a second end. A first clamping jaw is formed at the first end. A second clamping jaw is formed at the second end. The clamping jaws are drawn together by a tensioning device. The clip strap has radially inwardly directed projecting flanges on each of its axial ends. A first C-shaped clamping ring and a second C-shaped clamping ring are each disposed between the sealing gasket and one of the flanges. Each of the C-shaped clamping rings are supported on a radially inner side of the clip strap. Each of the C-shaped clamping rings have projections projecting from its radially inner face and, when said clip strap is tensioned, the projections of the C-shaped rings engage in the pipe material. The clamping rings are substantially made of plastic and approximately fill the space between the sealing gasket and one of the flanges. The clamping rings may be formed as a single part or from two ring parts. If formed of two parts, the radially inner part may be made of a brass alloy. The projections may be formed as encircling ribs.

Adjustable Length Discharge Joint for High Pressure Applications

An adjustable length joint for high-pressure applications is described that includes rigid inner and outer tubes; both having passages there through. The rigid outer tube has at least one peripheral ring groove within its inner wall. The tubes have threads, which are adapted to adjustably engage with one another securely at a working pressure of at least about 10,000 psi. The rigid inner tube and the rigid outer tube are rotatable to enable adjustable engagement between the threads. The joint also includes an O-ring seated in each of the at least one peripheral ring grooves. When the rigid inner tube and the rigid outer tube are held in a selectable position, the first thread and the second thread overlap a sufficient distance necessary for the first thread and the second thread to withstand the forces exerted by the internal pressure within the joint at the working pressure.

Barb clamp

A barb clamp is provided for fluid liquid or gaseous connection to a flexible tube, the flexible tube having an inner bore defined by a predetermined inner diameter for providing a fluid flow path. The barb clamp includes a barb connector having essentially the same predetermined inner diameter and a tapered end insertable into the tube. A sleeve and collet lock over the tubing and barb connector to prevent liquid material entering between the barb and tube. The tapered end of the barb connector terminates at a point so that there is essentially no transition between the inner diameter of the tube and the inner diameter of the barb connector to provide no pressure differential in the tubing between the outside and inside of the barb clamp.

Barb clamp

A plastic barb clamp provides leakproof connection of a flexible tube in a barb fitting. The barb clamp includes a collet and a sleeve. The barb clamp is configured to fit snugly within the tube. The collet is slid over the tube. Annular retainers on the interior surface of the collet fit tightly around the tube and under an expanded portion of the barb fitting. The sleeve is then slid over the collet. As the sleeve moves over the collet, tangs on the collet are pushed radially inwardly into the tube and barb fitting. The exterior surface of the collet has radial projections or expanded diameter portions for locking with the sleeve. The sleeve has an annular projection or a reduced diameter portion on the interior surface of the sleeve to correspond to the exterior surface of the collet to provide a secure lock between the collet and sleeve. To properly orientate the sleeve relative to the collet, the sleeve and collet can be molded as one piece, wherein the sleeve and collet are connected by thin, frangible pieces of plastic.

A conduit for use with a blood pump can have a flared inner surface at an end of the conduit. In some embodiments, the conduit can include a strain relief member such as overmolded silicone. The strain relief member can maintain the profile of the flared inner surface. A conduit with a flared inner surface can be configured for connection to a blood pump via a connector. For example, the conduit can include an anchor member such as flange configured to engage with various components of a connector to connect the conduit to a fitting on a pump or another structure. A coupling for securing pipe elements together in end-to-end relation is disclosed. The coupling has segments joined end-to-end by adjustable connection members. The segments surround a central space which receives the pipe elements. One or more gripping bodies are captured between the segments. The gripping bodies are arranged opposite to each other. The segments have angularly oriented reaction surfaces on the connection members. The gripping bodies have angularly oriented contact surfaces which interface with the reaction surfaces. When the segments are drawn toward each other by the connection members, interaction between the reaction surfaces and the contact surfaces forces the gripping bodies radially inwardly. Inwardly facing arcuate surfaces on the segments and the gripping bodies engage and retain the pipe elements.

A tube fitting for a tube end has a female threaded member that cooperates with a male threaded member. The female member includes a tube gripping device in the form of a gripping ring or ferrule that is attached to the female member by a frangible web. Upon a partial pull-up the ferrule engages a camming surface on the male threaded member and breaks off or separates from the female threaded member to become a separate piece so that the fitting then functions as a single ferrule tube fitting. Additional features include a steep camming angle on the camming surface to cause the ferrule to grip the tube end with a bite-type action and to form a primary seal between the camming surface and a front end of the separated ferrule. The ferrule front end, and optionally the entire female threaded member including the initially integral tube gripping device, are hardened to have a hardness ratio that is at least about 3.3 times the hardness of the material of the tube end on the Vickers scale.

Pipe clamp with integral latch

A pipe clamp that enables two pipes to be loosely connected together in a desired axially-aligned and rotationally-aligned configuration prior to tightening of the clamp. The pipe clamp includes a band having a first end and a second end, and a tightening mechanism connected to the band for drawing the ends of the band together. The pipe clamp further includes a latch having a base portion attached to the band and a clip portion that snaps over a button welded to the pipe to temporarily hold the clamp in place on the pipe. In some embodiments the pipe clamp is connected to both pipes via an attached clip and buttons at each axial end of the clamp, and in other embodiments the clamp is welded to one pipe and the clip and button then being used to loosely connect the welded assembly to the other pipe.
