An indirect gas operating system for an M4 type automatic or semi-automatic firearm. The indirect gas operating system has a gas block having a cylinder. The gas block is fitted to a barrel assembly having a bore with the cylinder in communication with the bore. A piston having a piston end and a striking end has the piston end fitted to the cylinder. A bolt assembly having a striking surface is provided. When a cartridge is fired, gas displaces the piston end and causes the striking end to strike the striking surface displacing the bolt assembly. The cylinder and the piston are together removable as an assembly from the firearm without removal of the gas block.

An M4 type automatic or semi-automatic firearm having an indirect gas operating system. A bolt assembly has a striking surface. The bolt assembly is enclosed within an M4 type receiver assembly. A barrel assembly having a bore is coupled to the receiver assembly. A gas block having a cylinder is fitted to the barrel assembly with the cylinder in communication with the bore. A piston and rod assembly has a piston and a striking rod, with the piston fitted to the cylinder. Gas discharged from a fired cartridge displaces the piston and causes the striking rod to strike the striking surface displacing the bolt assembly.

An accelerating assembly effectively to increase the cyclic rate at which the trigger of a semi-automatic firearm can be actuated to discharge the weapon. The firearm has a supporting device, a receiver housing supported from the supporting device, a trigger and trigger mechanism secured to the receiver housing. The accelerating mechanism incorporates structure that permits the receiver and the trigger to translate rearwardly a predetermined distance with respect to the supporting device in response to the recoil imparted by the discharge of the semi-automatic firearm. A biasing arrangement continuously urges the receiver, and trigger, to translate forwardly with respect to the supporting device substantially that same predetermined distance. A locating stop is mounted on the supporting device. The locating stop is disposed to be engaged by the shooter's finger after the trigger has been actuated to fire the semi-automatic weapon. That engagement of the shooter's trigger finger with the locating stop effectively immobilizing the shooter's trigger finger with respect to the supporting device until the shooter releases the trigger. The method of the present invention operates by depressing the trigger with a shooter's trigger finger in order to discharge the firearm. The shooter's finger is then immobilized in the position it has assumed to discharge the firearm. The trigger is translated away from the immobilized trigger finger to effect a total disengagement therebetween. Sequentially thereafter the trigger is biased into engagement with the immobilized trigger finger to effect successive discharges of the firearm.

One embodiment of a trigger system with an integral selector for semi-automatic firearms. A selector allows the user to choose between two modes and rates of fire. A trigger (1) is made to allow passage of the lower portion of a selector cam (5) to the exterior of the firearm. A selector lever (6) is affixed to the lower end of the selector cam (5) on the exterior of the firearms action. Turning the selector lever (6) rotates the selector cam (5) which tilts a pivotal disconnector (3) on its axis, varying the amount of disconnector (3) engagement with a hammer (2). The variance in the disconnector (3) engagement causes the firearm to fire in one of two modes, firing one round with a trigger pull and resetting with trigger release, or firing one round with trigger pull, and firing another round with trigger release. A device and method is provided for easily and readily converting a semi-automatic firearm to a fully automatic firing firearm. An additional method is provided for preventing the conversion of a semi-automatic firearm to an automatic firing firearm.

Devices and methods of converting semi-automatic firearms to a double-fire mode where a firearm fires a shot upon a single pull of a trigger, and fires a second shot upon a release of the trigger. A clip attachment can be constructed from a single component shaped to fit and mount onto the trigger and extend to protrude between and separate the foot of the safety-sear from the top of the trigger plate affecting the distance between the hammer engaging notch of the safety-sear and the hammer engaging notch of the trigger-sear which allows the firearm to discharge upon release of the trigger. Another version has a spacer pre-built onto a bottom portion of the pivotal safety sear.

Trigger groups for semi-automatic firearms have a frame, a hammer connected to the frame and movable between a cocked position and a striking position, the hammer being biased toward the striking position, a trigger element connected to the frame and movable by a user between a forward position and a rearward position, a selector connected to the frame and movable between at least a first position and a second position, and a plurality of retention facilities each operable to selectively restrain the hammer in the cocked position, and when the selector is in the second position to enable discharge of the firearm in response to movement of the trigger to the forward position after movement to the rearward position and to enable an additional discharge of the firearm upon release of the trigger to the forward position.

An accessory which becomes an integral part of a semi-automatic firearm whereby the firearm is converted from one with a detachable magazine into one with a fixed magazine. The device is comprised of an upper tension bar and a magazine catch bar whereby the upper tension bar holds the magazine firmly within the magazine well receiver when the upper tension bar is contacting the upper receiver. When the upper receiver and lower receiver of the firearm are in an open position, the upper tension bar freely moves inward toward the firearm, allowing the magazine catch bar to remove from the magazine well receiver. A user may then remove the magazine from the magazine well receiver and replace it with a new magazine. The user must reattach the upper receiver to the lower receiver before utilizing the firearm.

A shell for bullets of automatic or semiautomatic firearms with inertial closure, comprising a hollow cylindrical body which is closed, at one of its axial ends, by a head and is adapted to accommodate a bullet at the opposite axial end, the head being centrally provided with a cap that accommodates the primer. At least the portion of the shell which is extracted from the firing chamber when the fired bullet leaves the barrel is provided with reinforcement means to prevent accidental bursting of the shell at the end of the firing action and when the extraction of the shell from the firing chamber begins.

A semiautomatic firearm with redundant systems for reducing misfirings. A safety trigger is provided that is passively actuated in advance of a firing trigger. The safety trigger maintains redundant safety mechanisms that prevent inadvertent or accidental actuation of the firing trigger. The firing trigger can be configured for actuation with a very low magnitude or “soft” pull without compromising safety. For the disclosed embodiments, the safety trigger assures that the firearm is discharged only upon deliberate actuation of the firing trigger. In one embodiment, a trigger pull adjustment mechanism provides adjustment of the pull of the firing trigger to a desired force required by the operator. The disclosed trigger pull adjustment mechanism reduces the number of components and complexity of the machined parts over conventional trigger pull adjustment mechanisms.

A semiautomatic firearm is presented that is a combination of known parts from the AR-15 style firearms and AK-47 style firearms and new parts. The firearm includes a receiver and a removable trunnion inserted into the receiver. A barrel is threaded and pinned into the trunnion and an adjustable gas block is connected to the barrel. The gas block includes a gas bore and an adjustable member that extends into and out of the gas bore thereby adjusting the amount of gases that travel through the gas block. The firearm also includes a foregrip installed over the barrel and gas block. The foregrip has a pattern of venting openings therein and an opening that provides access to the adjustable member of the gas block as well as a top rail and a bottom rail. The combination of these components provides a semiautomatic firearm that operates smoothly while being rugged and durable.

The invention is designed to be fitted into the AK47-type semiautomatic firearms to provide a missing but vital feature of locking the reciprocating bolt assembly of said firearm after having chambered, fired and ejected the last cartridge from its removable magazine. A semiautomatic single action hand gun comprises a slide with a contoured grip on a breach end of the slide. A method is also disclosed. In accordance with one step of the method a single action semiautomatic firearm is provides. In accordance with another step of the method, a contoured grip for a slide of the firearm is provided. The grip comprises a plurality of depressions in an elongated strip with the depressions generally sized to accommodate the fingers of a user and the strip generally sized to fit on a lateral side of a slide of firearm. In accordance with another step in the method, the grip is applied to a lateral side of a slide of the firearm.

A device and method for increasing the rate of the firing cycle of a semi-automatic firearm includes a base that is adapted to support any one of a variety of semi-automatic firearms. The base includes a trigger extension with a grip, a slide mount, and a slide housed within the slide mount. At least the receiver, barrel, and trigger assembly of the firearm are secured to the base so that they may move as a single unit upon the base between a rearward position upon discharge of the firearm and a forward position. A biasing means continuously biases the receiver, barrel, and trigger assembly upon the base toward the forward position to effect successive discharges of the firearm.

A handle assembly and combined interface system for use with a semi-automatic firearm to facilitate controlled bump firing methods. The handle assembly includes a finger rest for the user's trigger finger. The interface system is attached to a receiver of the firearm, and is slideably disposed in the handle assembly for reciprocation. In use, the user pushes a firing unit portion forward with an opposite hand so that its trigger collides with the user's finger, thus stimulating a round of ammunition. Recoil forces the firing unit rearwardly so that the trigger separates from the finger. The user then applies another forward activation force that urges the firing unit forwardly again to repeat the cycle for as long as the user chooses. A lock can be selectively engaged to restrict longitudinal movement of the firearm relative to the handle, thereby returning the firearm to normal semi-automatic functionality.

A semiautomatic firearm with a reciprocating bolt assembly has delayed blowback and a firing pin block. The firearm is particularly suitable for firing necked rimfire cartridges with a high level of reliability. Features prevent out-of-battery firing, when the bolt assembly is not fully engaged to the firing chamber or barrel face, a movable member within a bolt body functions as a blocking member that blocks the firing pin and prevents the firing pin from striking a cartridge. In embodiments, the firing pin has two stop portions that the movable member can engage depending on the cycle status of the firearm. A reverse cam mechanism associated with the firing pin blocking provides a resistance to and delays blowback. The bolt may interface with the necked rimfire cartridge using a undercut engagement on the forward end of the bolt. The semiautomatic firearm also may incorporate one or both of a dual trigger arrangement as part of a trigger and firing mechanism.

A method for removing the slide from a semi-automatic firearm is provided that includes the steps of: (1) providing an access port within the slide of the firearm that is positioned to align with the firing mechanism of the firearm; (2) inserting a probe into the access port; and (3) manipulating the firing mechanism with the probe, and thereby enabling the slide to be removed from the frame. A semi-automatic firearm is also provided that includes a frame, a slide removably mounted on the frame, a striker firing-pin mounted within the slide, a firing mechanism, and an access port disposed in the slide. When the slide is in a predetermined position, the firing mechanism can be accessed through the access port with a probe and manipulated to allow removal of the slide from the frame.
