1334 results about "Trunnion" patented technology

A trunnion (from Old French "trognon", trunk) is a cylindrical protrusion used as a mounting or pivoting point. First associated with cannons, they are an important military development. Alternatively, a trunnion is a shaft that positions and supports a tilting plate. This is a misnomer, as in reality it is a cradle for the true trunnion.

Constant-velocity joint and image forming device

A constant-velocity joint includes an outer ring formed formed with a bore defined by six flat surfaces parallel to its axis, and a trunnion member received in the bore of the outer ring. The trunnion member has an outer periphery formed with three first spherical surfaces circumferentially spaced apart from each other and three second spherical surfaces circumferentially spaced apart from each other and each disposed between adjacent first spherical surfaces. Each first spherical surface is in contact with one of the flat surfaces at a point offset from the circumferential center of the flat surface in one circumferential direction. Each second spherical surface is in contact with another flat surface at a point offset from the circumferential center of the flat surface in the other circumferential direction. At least one of the outer ring and the trunnion member is made of a synthetic resin.

Tube rack

A tube rack comprises a base having an array of vertical openings extending therebetween, the openings being configured and dimensioned to receive a plurality of tubes, with the upper ends of the tubes being accessible at the top surface. The base includes base sidewalls that each include a co-axial trunnion extending from the associated sidewall. The tube rack also includes a rotatable and removable cover having a front wall, a back wall and first and second sidewalls, wherein the first and second side walls each include an associated notch open on a bottom surface thereof to allow the cover to be lowered onto the base, such that each of the notches rests on its associated trunnion and may be (i) vertically raised from its closed position on the trunnions and (ii) rotated about the trunnions from its closed position to allow access to the array of openings, wherein each of the notches includes a trunnion travel surface and a ledge surface and the ledge surface engages its associated trunnion to limit rotation of the cover beyond its full cover position. Each of the openings comprises a plurality of support pads positioned within the opening to vertically support the tube within its associated opening. Each of the pads includes a chamfered concave surface that supportably engages the tube, while providing flow paths through which air may pass through the openings adjacent to the tube.

Overrunning coupling assembly

An overrunning coupling assembly includes a notch plate and an annular coupling pocket plate positioned in face-to-face relationship with respect to each other along a common axis. The pocket plate has strut pockets disposed at angularly spaced positions about the common axis. The notch plate has notch recesses at angularly spaced positions about the common axis and positioned in juxtaposed relationship with respect to the strut pockets. Torque-transmitting struts are positioned in each of the strut pockets. Each strut has first and second ears at one edge thereof for enabling pivotal motion of the struts about an ear axis intersecting the ears. The opposite edge of each strut is movable between disengaged and engaged positions with respect to one of the notch recesses whereby one-way torque transfer may occur between the plates. A lubricant flows between the notch plate and pocket plate. A spring is positioned in each strut pocket and biases the respective strut toward the notch plate. Each spring engages the respective strut intermediate the ear axis and the opposite edge. Each strut pocket provides sufficient clearance forward of the respective opposite edge of the strut to allow forward sliding movement of the respective strut during overrunning to cause the engagement of the respective spring and strut to occur nearer the ear axis, thereby reducing the length of a moment arm about which the spring acts upon the strut which enables frictional forces of the flowing lubricant to hold the strut in its disengaged position to prevent the strut from slapping against the notch recesses as the notch plate and pocket plate are respectively counterrotated.

Left and right panels pivot with snap hinges received in snap sockets on the base. Trunnions, disposed in the snap sockets, are eccentric to increase or decrease the backlash between the snap hinge and the snap socket as the panels pivot. The left and right panels have edge pockets that receive edge fingers on the front and rear panels to hold the container open. The front and rear panels each have an access opening with access doors. Links pivot the access doors on two hinge rods. Locking members wedge the hinge rods in the hinge knuckles. The base has feet with bumper plates having flanges that prevent the container from shifting on an adjacent lower stacked container.

Ball valve having self-centering seats

A trunnion type ball valve having valve seats that are laterally moveable within seat recesses of the valve and establish sealing engagement with a valve ball member that is trunnion supported for rotational movement between open and closed positions. The valve seat members are self-centering for optimum sealing engagement with the spherical sealing surface of the ball member. The internal geometry of the seat assemblies are designed to permit optimum flow through the valve mechanism even under circumstances where the seat members are located in laterally off-center relation with respect to the centerline of the flow passages due to self-centering seat movement. The ball valve is readily adapted for fire-safe application via the use of heat resistant seals and metal-to-metal sealing of components to prevent or minimize leakage in the event of seal destruction or degradation by excess heat.

System and method for balancing a driveline system

A process for balancing a vehicular driveline including a propeller shaft and an input shaft of a vehicle axle interconnected by a universal joint. First, the vehicle propeller shaft is balanced to a predetermined residual imbalance having an imbalance vector angle of 0° or 180° which lies inline with open set of cardan joint trunnions. The corrected residual imbalance is then visually marked. Next, the input shaft is balanced to a predetermined residual imbalance having an imbalance vector angle of 0° or 180° which lies inline with cross-holes in yoke ears. Again, the corrected residual imbalance on the input shaft is then visually marked. During the assembly of the vehicle, the assembly line operator couples the propeller shaft to the input shaft through a cardan joint cross by aligning the marks on the propeller shaft and the input shaft so that the marks are located opposite to each other.

Enhanced ratio control in a toroidal drive

Enhanced ratio control in a toroidal drive of a T-CVT is provided. A factor of proportionality is computed by which a trunnion axial displacement and a T-CVT ratio rate are related. A filter in the form of a characteristic equation is established. This filter includes a physical quantity indicative of the T-CVT ratio and a physical quantity indicated by an actuator command, as inputs, a quasi-state quantity, as a state quantity, and a transition coefficient for the quasi-state quantity. The transition coefficient includes an observer gain. The quasi-state quantity is computed using the filter. An estimated quantity of a system state quantity of the T-CVT is computed using the quasi-state quantity, the observer gain, and a trunnion angular position. The system state quantity includes at least the first physical quantity. The observer gain is corrected in response to the factor of proportionality to keep the transition coefficient unaltered.
