Apparatus and method for delivering information to an individual based on location and/or time

A time/location information delivery system that provides focused advertising and/or other information to individuals based on the time and their location. A wireless identification device is carried by an individual and can be read from or written to when the individual passes by interrogators in a specific geographic location. The detectors read ID information embedded in the wireless identification device. A computer uses the ID and location information to select, from a list of information providers, those information providers which provide information content identifiable or correlated to a location and/or time, and is of interest to the individual. The information content can be forwarded to the individual by a variety of information channels. One channel uses conventional Internet email to deliver advertisements and other information to the individual's Internet mailbox. The email can be delivered to a conventional PC, a portable computer, a PDA, an intelligent telephone, pager or other suitable device. For ease of discussion, a pager and a PDA will be referred to collectively as a PDA. The wireless identification device can be an RFID tag embedded in a card, or even a wireless telephone. The RFID tag is read or written to by fixed interrogators and the location of the wireless telephone is detected by triangulating information from cell towers or by embedding the GPS receiver in the wireless telephone thereby providing the location information directly from the telephone. Of course, other nearly identical location determination means, such as quadrangulation could also be used. The location determination can be performed through similar means with other devices such as PDAs, laptops, pagers, etc.

Systems and methods for collecting, analyzing, and sharing bio-signal and non-bio-signal data

A computer network implemented system for improving the operation of one or more biofeedback computer systems is provided. The system includes an intelligent bio-signal processing system that is operable to: capture bio-signal data and in addition optionally non-bio-signal data; and analyze the bio-signal data and non-bio-signal data, if any, so as to: extract one or more features related to at least one individual interacting with the biofeedback computer system; classify the individual based on the features by establishing one or more brain wave interaction profiles for the individual for improving the interaction of the individual with the one or more biofeedback computer systems, and initiate the storage of the brain waive interaction profiles to a database; and access one or more machine learning components or processes for further improving the interaction of the individual with the one or more biofeedback computer systems by updating automatically the brain wave interaction profiles based on detecting one or more defined interactions between the individual and the one or more of the biofeedback computer systems. A number of additional system and computer implemented method features are also provided.

Anonymous biometric authentication

The use of an anonymous biometric authentication system and method that use biometrics to anonymously authenticate an individual and grant certain privileges based on the anonymous authentication is provided. The system and method permit enrollment of an individual by submission of a first biometric and associated identity documents or credentials to an enrollment authority. The enrollment authority verifies the identity of the identity of the individual submitting the biometric using the credentials which are then returned to the individual or discarded. The first biometric is stored in a database for later retrieval in anonymously authenticating an individual seeking to exercise certain privileges. No other personal identity information is stored along with the biometric during the enrollment process. When an individual later seeks to exercise certain privileges, they must submit a second biometric that is compared to the stored biometrics in the database in order to anonymously authenticate the identity of the individual as having access to such privileges. No other personal information is captured, collected, or solicited during the authentication process. Privileges are granted to an individual based on the comparison of the later captured biometric to the stored biometrics in the database. Alternatively, the anonymous biometric authentication system can be designed to avoid repeat offenders by capturing a biometric of an individual seeking to exercise a privilege and denying the privilege if the captured biometric is matched to a biometric stored in a database containing the biometrics of previous offenders. Preferably, the system and method include capture and storage of a powerful biometric identifier based on the iris of the eye which uniquely identifies the individual that has submitted the biometric. Anonymous biometric authentication allows verification of the identity of an individual seeking certain privileges while at the same time protecting the privacy of personal information about the individual.

System and method of monitoring and modifying human activity-based behavior

A system and method for monitoring the activity level of one or more individuals and modifying the behavior of those individuals based on feedback from the activity level monitoring is disclosed. When applying the system and method to hyperactive children in a classroom environment, an activity monitor is attached to each hyperactive child. The activity monitor determines the intensity of the subject's activity at the end of each epoch (approximately every 5 seconds), stores the determined intensity, and compares the determined intensity to an epoch threshold. If the determined intensity exceeds the epoch threshold, the hyperactive child is given vibrotactile feedback by the attached activity monitor. The length of time that the vibrotactile feedback is applied is proportional to the amount the determined epoch intensity exceeds the epoch threshold. When the hyperactive child presses a button on the activity monitor to thereby request session feedback, the session intensity is compared to two different session thresholds, and one of three LEDs on the activity monitor is lit up, depending on where the session intensity is in comparison to the two session thresholds. A base station, either a simple hand-held device or a more complicated desk-top device, is under the control of the teacher and has a wireless communication link with the activity monitors so that information may be downloaded and the activity monitors may be controlled.
