A therapeutic face mask comprises a face-engaging portion and a single connector having a mask-engaging end and a single treatment-receiving end which has a single attachment mounting for detachably sealingly receiving a treatment attachment, such as an oxygen reservoir bag or a nebulizer. A one-way inhalation valve in the connector permits fluid flow from the treatment-receiving end to the mask-engaging end during inhalation and inhibits fluid flow in the other direction. The mask also includes a valve-governed exhalation port and an anti-asphyxia valve assembly configured to permit fluid flow from ambient to the face-engaging portion during inhalation only when inspiratory effort during inhalation exceeds fluid flow to the treatment-receiving end of the connector. Also provided is an oxygen reservoir bag having a neck shaped for removable coupling to a mating connector of a therapeutic face mask. An oxygen reservoir bag may have a metered-dose inhaler port defined in its neck.

The apparatus comprises a microprocessor and an airway system comprising drive gas conduits provided with an inhalation valve (2) and an exhalation valve (5) for gas discharging as well as a ventilator end flow sensor (3) for measuring the introduced or discharged drive gas flow through the valves. The airway system also comprises patient end breathing tubing in which a patient end flow sensor (11) for measuring the patient's inspired and expired gas flow is provided. By comparing the measured values of the two flow sensors against the characteristic curve of the inhalation valve (2), the microprocessor can judge the operation states and accuracy of the respective flow sensors and the inhalation valve (2).

The device includes an inhalation passageway for letting air into the device when a patient breathing through the device inhales, and an exhalation passageway for passing air out of the device when a patient breathing through the device exhales. The device preferably includes an inhalation valve to allow air to flow into, but not out of, the inhalation passageway, and an exhalation valve to allow air to flow out of the exhalation passageway only when a patient using the device exhales with an expiratory air pressure greater than a pre-determined pressure. A variable pressure spring may control the force needed to open the exhalation valve.

A turbine ventilator pressure-controlled ventilation method comprising the following steps: a ventilator is started up, a control unit in the ventilator controls a turbine motor to rotate at rotational speed U, the turbine motor provides the ventilator with a hyperbaric gas; a detector unit detects the breathing state of a patient, if the patient is in an inhalation state, proceeds to an inhalation phase control, and, if the patient is in an exhalation state, proceeds to an exhalation phase control; the air pressure of an inhalation phase is controlled by the control unit by controlling driving voltage V1 of an inhalation valve to regulate the extent to which the inhalation valve is opened, the positive end-expiratory pressure of an exhalation phase is controlled by the control unit by controlling driving voltage V2 of an exhalation valve to regulate the extent to which the exhalation valve is opened, and, if auxiliary air supply by the ventilator to the patient is ceased, the ventilator is shut down. The method implements real-time synchronous control of the rotational speed of the turbine motor and real-time control of input voltages of the inhalation valve and of the exhalation valve of the ventilator, thus implementing the goals of precision control of motor rotational speed and of target pressure.
