104 results about "Linear medium" patented technology

A linear medium is any medium which is intended to be written to or accessed in a linear fashion, literally meaning in a line. This means that the information is written to or read from the medium in a given order, so for example a book containing a novel is intended to be read from front to back, beginning to end, and is therefore a linear medium. It may be written in the same way, but would not necessarily need to be, to be considered a linear medium. A book containing an encyclopedia however is a non-linear medium, as it is not necessary for the articles to be accessed (or written) in any particular order. Even though both non-linear and linear media have perimeters to which they are restricted, linear media have a set path of how to get from point A to point B, whereas non-linear media do not.

Method for automatically producing optimal summaries of linear media

Optimal summaries of a linear media source are automatically produced by parameterizing a linear media source. The parameterized linear media source is used to create a similarity array in which each array element includes the value of a similarity measurement between a two portions of the parameterized media signal. A segment fitness function, adapted for measuring the similarity between a segment of the parameterized media signal and the entire parameterized media signal, is optimized to find an optimal segment location. The portion of the linear media source corresponding to the optimal segment location is selected as the optimal summary. This method produces optimal summaries of any type of linear media, such as video, audio, or text information.

Multiple-level graphics processing with animation interval generation

Described is a method and system in which timing intervals are generated from clock properties, and used to interpolate values for smooth animation. A high-level component maintains a set of clocks related to animated objects and / or linear media in a scene graphs. The clocks correspond to clock properties received from an application program. The clocks are processed into event lists at the higher level, from which timing interval data is generated and passed to a low-level component. The low-level component, which generally operates at a faster rate than the high-level component, uses the timing interval data to rapidly calculate current values for an animated object. Interaction, such as to pause an animation or resume a paused animation, causes the high-level component to re-compute the event list and regenerate new animation intervals for affected clocks. The new animation intervals are passed and used by the lower-level component.

Optical Signal Processing

An optical regenerator for regenerating a multi-level phase encoded signal. A first non-linear medium (HNLF1) generates a comb of frequency harmonics from the signal under the action of a coherent pump, each component bearing the phase encoded data. A filter selects the first and (M−1)th order components. The filtered signal is then input to a second non-linear medium (HNLF2) where a further pump is applied, to coherently add the first and (M−1)th order components and regenerate the signal by reducing phase noise.
