Methods of treatment of the dental pulp and filling root canals using water-based material

Improved compositions comprising a mixture of particulate materials with water-based liquids containing water-soluble polymers and surfactants are provided. Examples of particulate powders include mixtures of calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, calcium sulfate, and hydroxyapatite. Examples of water-soluble polymers include polyvinyl alcohols, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetates, polyacrylic acid, and polymethacrylic acid. Surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate are added to the composition to interact with the polymeric materials. The compositions are particularly suitable for sealing and obturating dental root canals and root apices. The composition provides a stable barrier to bacterial and fluid leakage in the root canal system of a tooth. In addition, the compositions help promote the growth of new bone and tissue surrounding the root-tip area or dentin tissue that covers an injured or amputated pulp.

Root apex position detection apparatus

Root apex position model data associated with electrical characteristic values between a measurement electrode and a mouth electrode in a state in which the distal end of the measurement electrode is located at a root apex position of a root canal is stored in a storage unit. A power supply applies measurement signals of 500 Hz and 2 kHz between the measurement electrode and the mouth electrode. Two different current values flowing between the measurement electrode and the mouth electrode are detected. These current values are compared with the root apex position mode data stored in the storage unit. If the root apex position data includes any data which coincides with the current values, it is detected that the distal end of the measurement electrode is located at the root apex position.

Measuring Instrument System for Endodontic Length

Disclosed herein is an instrument for measuring an endodontic length, which measures and indicates the distance from a pointed tip of a cutting tool to a root apex in order to prevent the pointed tip of the cutting tool from going over the root apex when a root canal is perforated by the cutting tool for an endodontic treatment of a root canal of a tooth. The endodontic length measuring instrument is equipped inside a unit chair system installed in a consultation room of a dental clinic and allows a monitor mounted on the unit chair system to display a measurement result of the endodontic length, thereby making a medical treatment of a root canal easy, easily providing a measurement result of the endodontic length to a doctor, and displaying treatment and measurement results of the root canal in various and precise ways. The measuring instrument provides a scaled-up image of the remaining distance from the pointed tip of the cutting tool to the root apex when the pointed tip of the cutting tool reaches an area which demands a more precise measurement result, thereby increasing safety and accuracy in perforation of the root canal.
