The present invention is insect repellant with stalks as main material and its preparation. The insect repellant consists of mainly circulating liquid 750-850 weight portions, plant ash 120-160 weight portions, calcium hydroxide 5-25 weight portions, purifying agent 15-45 weight portions, active carbon 0.5-0.7 weight portions, and the purifying agent consists of mainly calcium hydroxide 3-4 weight portions, sodium bicarbonate 1-1.5 weight portions, potassium carbonate 1.5-2 weight portions, borax 0.5-1 weight portions, magnesium chloride 0.5-1.5 weight portions, sodium dodecyl sulphonate 1.5-2.5 weight portions. The circulating liquid is produced during treating stalk gas with the water solution of the purifying agent to eliminate tar, corrosive gas, non-flammable gas and other impurity; and the plant ash is the solid residue of burning stalk. The insect repellant may be used in promoting the growth of crop.
