There are disclosed various embodiments of surgical tacks for use in surgical procedures. The tacks generally include a head and a barrel portion extending distally from the head. Preferably the head and the barrel portion define a throughbore for receipt of a drive instrument. A thread on the head is provided to engage threads in the installation tool. A tissue thread is provided on the barrel, portion to engage tissue. Distal and proximal surfaces of the tissue thread may be oriented at various angles relative to the barrel portion. Radio frequency identification (RFID)-equipped communication components are disclosed. The communication components can include fiber optic components, such as fiber optic connectors and fiber optic adapters as examples. An RFID-equipped circuit is provided in the communication components to communicate information. In order that the electrical circuit be provided in the communication component without altering the communication component connection type, the circuit may be disposed in at least one recessed area of the communication component housing. In this manner, the communication component maintains its connection type such that it is compatible with a complementary communication component connection type for backwards compatibility while also being RFID-equipped. The circuit may also be provided in a substrate containing one or more electrical contacts coupled to the circuit such that a wired coupling is established with one or more electrical contacts provided in another communication component when connected.

A humeral component of a prosthesis comprises a stem module for fixing the prosthesis into a bone. A joint adapter can be attached, preferably under different angles to the stem module. The joint adapter holds a liner having a recessed spherical cavity, which is the cup of the joint. The joint adapter has an inner surface and a circumferential groove. The liner has an outer surface including a circular recess. This circular recess preferably is concentric to the major body diameter of the liner for interfacing with the circumferential groove of the joint adapter. Furthermore, the liner has a radial slit, which allows compression of the liner for easy insertion and removal.
