An
ablation balloon catheter includes an outer
catheter shaft and an
inflatable balloon whose first end is connected to the outer
catheter shaft. The catheter includes a movable
nose tip to which the second end of the
inflatable balloon is connected. The catheter has a first
electrode basket having a plurality of first splines, whose first end is connected to the outer catheter shaft and whose second end is connected to the
nose tip. A second
electrode basket is also provided, which has a plurality of second splines, whose first end is connected to the outer catheter shaft and whose second end is connected to the
nose tip. The second
electrode basket is positioned above the first electrode basket, and the plurality of first splines are rotationally offset from the plurality of second splines. One or more first splines support one or more electrodes, and one or more second splines support one or more electrodes. The catheter has an
actuator that moves the nose tip axially to facilitate the transition of the first and second electrode baskets to a folded state when the balloon deflates. The multiple first splines and multiple second splines are configured to expand radially when the
inflatable balloon is inflated, with the multiple first splines interposing between the multiple second splines.
