A mobile terminal includes a display module displaying an electronic document screen showing at least one full page among a plurality of pages of an electronic document, and the display module receives a first input for setting a number of pages to be turned among the plurality of pages. The mobile terminal further includes a controller which sets the number of pages in response to the first input, turns the set number of pages in response to a second input received proximate to the electronic document screen, and displays a subsequent page following the set number of pages turned on the electronic document screen.

An imaging system including firmware is disclosed. The imaging system includes a communications device adapted and constructed to facilitate communication between the imaging device and a remote source of information. An automatic remote firmware update mechanism is adapted to selectively and automatically retrieve firmware upgrade information from the remote source of information via the communications device. The automatic remote firmware update mechanism can also selectively and automatically install the firmware upgrade information into the firmware of the imaging system. The automatic remote firmware update mechanism can form a part of firmware installed in the imaging system. The communications device can be provided as a modem, or as a network interface card. The imaging system can also include a flag mechanism for storing a value corresponding to an update trigger parameter. A flag parameter update mechanism can be provided to incrementally increase the update trigger parameter in response to a sensed condition. A trigger mechanism is adapted to actuate the automatic remote firmware update mechanism to automatically retrieve firmware upgrade information when the update trigger parameter reaches a predetermined update value. The sensed condition can be a condition such as page count through the imaging system, or the passage of a predetermined amount of time. The imaging system is also adapted to periodically check the update trigger parameter, and to compare downloaded firmware upgrade information to existing firmware to determine the necessity of installing the downloaded firmware upgrade information. A method of updating firmware is also provided.

Based on a count of the number of dirty pages in a cache memory, the dirty pages are written from the cache memory to a storage array at a rate having a component proportional to the rate of change in the number of dirty pages in the cache memory. For example, a desired flush rate is computed by adding a first term to a second term. The first term is proportional to the rate of change in the number of dirty pages in the cache memory, and the second term is proportional to the number of dirty pages in the cache memory. The rate component has a smoothing effect on incoming I/O bursts and permits cache flushing to occur at a higher rate closer to the maximum storage array throughput without a significant detrimental impact on client application performance.

A method for performing block management is provided. The method is applied to a controller of a Flash memory having multiple channels. A system and method are provided for selecting thumbnail images in a multi-page document. The method displays a multi-position scroll bar and a thumbnail of a document nth (initial) page. As a user modifies the scroll bar position in the display, the nth page thumbnail display is maintained. Simultaneously with maintaining the nth page thumbnail display, page numbers are displayed that are responsive to the scroll bar positions. Following the selection of a new scroll bar position display, a kth (destination) page number is displayed, along with a (kth) thumbnail associated with the kth page. For example, the kth thumbnail is displayed in response to maintaining the scroll bar position for a predetermined time duration (e.g., 1 second), or deselecting the scroll bar. If the hardcopy document is measured, then information is collected such as the number of sheets, the sheet sizes, and the sheet sides used (simplex/duplex). If the scanned image data is measured, then the document can be scanned and a count made of the number of image pages in the scanned image data. Alternately, or in addition to page-count, the amount of content in the scan image data can be measured.

Systems and methods for moving a document cradle to facilitate imaging of a bound document are disclosed. The system may include a cradle supporting a document, such as a book, a cradle positioner for selectively positioning the cradle relative to a camera, and a controller for controlling the positioner to automatically position the cradle based on the location of the page being imaged relative to the camera. The cradle may be positioned such that a gutter of the book or a surface plane of each page being imaged remains in approximately the same position relative to the camera. The cradle positioner may include a servo motor controlling a shaft to position the cradle supported and guided by a bearing. A sensor (e.g., 3D camera, range finder, laser, and/or edge detector) may be provided to facilitate the controller in controlling the cradle positioner based on the location of the page being imaged relative to the camera. The controller may control the positioner based on, for example, current page count tracked by the controller, total number of pages, thickness of the book, width of the gutter of the cradle, and/or weight of the book exerted on one or both sides of the cradle.

A method, apparatus, and product for reducing resource footprints for printer operation outputs, comprising: specifying a print job rendering criteria; receiving a request to print a print job having a page number amount; and automatically selecting and printing a portion of the print job as a function of the print job rendering criteria, wherein the portion has a page number amount smaller than the print job page number amount.
