Blends of temperature sensitive and anionic polymers for drug delivery

A physical blend of inverse thermal gelling and shear-thinning, thixotropic polymers that has a lower gelation temperature than the thermal gelling polymer alone is provided. The blend results in an injectable hydrogel that does not flow freely at room temperature, but is injectable due to its shear-thinning properties. The thermal-gelling properties of the polymer promote a more mechanically stable gel at body temperature than at room temperature. The polymer matrix gel has inherent therapeutic benefit and can also be used as a drug delivery vehicle for localized release of therapeutic agents.

Adjustable slicer

A food slicer for slicing a food product is provided. The slicer may have an adjustable surface and a stationary surface with a blade interposed therebetween. The food product may be sliced with a specific thickness via the blade by traversing the food product from the adjustable surface to the stationary surface. A trailing edge of the adjustable surface and an edge of the blade may define a gap distance which determines a slicing thickness of the food product. A cam may contact an underside of the adjustable surface to set the gap distance. The gap distance may be reset by rotating the cam. More particularly, the cam may have a plurality of cam surfaces. Each of the cam surfaces may have a different distance to a rotating axis of the cam. The gap distance may be changed by rotating the cam such that a different cam surface contacts the adjustable surface's underside.

Methods of optimising stochastic processing parameters in crop harvesting machines

The flow of crop material through a harvesting machine, such as a combine, can be described using a wide range of models, providing a relationship between the harvester load u(t), e.g. the mass flow at the inlet, and an effectiveness value y(t), e.g. the grain loss at the outlet. However, prior art models are not applicable to a wide range of harvesting conditions or are very complicated, requiring a multitude of inputs. The invention proposes to use a simple model, comprising a stochastic parameter , which is continuously optimized to adjust the model to the latest prevailing working conditions. Such parameter may be considered to constitute a variable which characterizes the instantaneously prevailing readiness of the harvesting process. Such variable can be used for establishing field maps showing the evolution of the harvesting operation itself. It can also be used in automatic routines which adjust the harvester speed in order to limit the grain losses.

An inclinometer may also be provided such that the operating parameters may be varied according to the inclination of the ground to be maintained. If guidance means is provided to guide the vehicle along a specified path a variable operating parameter may be a minimum allowable specified path length.

Plastic sheet cutter

A cutter operative to pierce and cut a sheet of material includes a handle and a body portion coupled to the handle. The body portion includes two puncture fingers having tips for piercing the sheet of material and two blades for cutting two parallel cuts in the sheet of material. in a method of installing a zipper on a sheet of material, left and right portions of a zipper are applied to a sheet of material. A swath portion of the sheet of material is cut having two parallel, spaced-apart cuts between the left and right portions of the zipper. In this manner, zipper installation is established in a manner that avoids formation of flap of material that would otherwise remain between the left and right flanges of the zipper.

Tools and methods to trim excess vegetation from growing plants

Tools for trimming excess vegetation from growing plants include inner and outer coaxially positioned, relatively rotatable cutter blade assemblies which establish an interior volume for receiving a plant to be trimmed. Excess vegetation from the plant which extends outwardly of the interior volume established by the cutter blades will therefore be severed upon relative rotation being effected therebetween. Most preferably, the inner cutter assembly includes sets of elongate cutter blade members whose having tined ends which may be partially embedded in the soil surrounding the growing plant to be trimmed. The outer cutter assembly is mounted for free movement both rotationally and longitudinally regarding the inner cutter assembly, and is most preferably connected to a motorized source of power (e.g., a conventional hand-held electric drill). The tined ends may therefore be embedded in the soil surrounding the plant so that the plant occupies the interior volume defined thereby and so that the inner cutter assembly remains stationary during the trimming procedure. The outer cutter assembly may then be sleeved over the inner cutter assembly, and rotated (e.g., by operation of the electric drill attached thereto) to thereby cause the excess vegetation extending outwardly from the interior volume to be severed.
