According to one solving means of the present invention, a stereoscopic video recording method records, in a recording medium, stereoscopic video including left-eye images (2) and right-eye images (1) utilizing parallax information, by using a stereoscopic video recording apparatus (6). From video content that contains stereoscopic images, the method grasps the amount of variation in parallactic angle having a given or larger value, a variation time that the variation in parallactic angle takes, and the number of times that the variation in parallactic angle occurs. The method then calculates an evaluation value that corresponds to the degree of eye fatigue on the basis of the amount of variation, the variation time, and the number of times of the variation, encodes the video content in such a manner that the evaluation value is within a given range, and records the encoded video content in the recording medium.

This invention provides a method for creating / writing defect management information of an information recording medium and an apparatus and optical disc based on the method. In the present invention, it depends on the type of data to be reproduced whether or not defective sectors which are detected during reproduction operation are replaced with non-defective sectors. If read-out errors are detected in reproducing non-audio / video data, linear replacement algorithm is applied to the corresponding defective sectors. On the other hand, in case of audio / video data, location information of the corresponding defective sectors is just kept without any sector replacement. Therefore, this invention enables to reproduce audio / video data in real-time regardless of the presence of defective sectors and to avoid writing data to the defective sectors when new data is overwritten to the information recording medium.

An apparatus and method for generating watermark units are also described including selecting a position where a value in encoded content is to be replaced by an alternative value and calculating the alternative value a plurality of alternative values for each selected position. Further a system and method for replacing a watermark in encoded content are also described including receiving encoded content, receiving at least one pre-processed watermark unit and replacing a number of bits starting at a position in the encoded content with a value, wherein the value is specified in the at least one watermark unit.

An optical information recording medium includes a substrate 1 and two information layers (2, 4) formed on the substrate. The information layer is formed of a thin film showing a change that can be detected optically by irradiation of a light beam 7. A separating layer 3 that is transparent to a wavelength of the light beam 7 is formed between the information layers 2 and 4. Each information layer (2, 4) includes a sector area having sector address portions (9, 13) and data areas (8, 12) for recording information signals, the sector address portion and the data area being divided in the circumferential direction, and a management area (10, 14) for recording identification information about the amount of dislocation between the sector address portions 9 and 14 in the circumferential direction. Thus, the identification information about the amount of dislocation can be recorded, so that demodulation errors during reproduction can be reduced by switching amplification gain or slice level during reproduction according to the identification information. Also, stable data recording can be achieved by switching recording power according to a gate signal.

For application of asymmetry trial writing onto phase-change recording discs, this invention is intended to determine an optimum level of recording power accurately. Single pattern or random pattern signals are recorded, and phase differences between PLL clock edges and data edges are detected using reproduced signals to determine a threshold value of recording power where a predetermined percentage of phase differences occurs. The threshold power is then multiplied by a constant to provide a optimum level of recording power. Further, there are disclosed arrangements for determining an optimum power condition at a point where an error count (jitter) is minimized, and determining an optimum power condition as an averaged power level existing between low and high power conditions.
