Recordable optical disk and optical disk recording device utilizing pre-recorded recording speed information

Information indicative of disk-applicable recording speeds is incorporated in lead-out start time information within ATIP information that is recorded in pre-grooves located in a lead-in area of an optical disk. Once the optical disk is inserted in an optical disk recording device, the lead-out start time information is read out, so that recording is performed on the optical disk after a recording speed is automatically set to a highest settable speed value within a range specified by the read-out lead-out start time information. This arrangement can reliably prevent recording at speeds beyond predetermined limit values unique to the optical disk.

Method and apparatus for improved address mark detection

A method and apparatus are disclosed for detecting an address mark in a data stream having a preamble followed by the address mark. The end of the preamble is detected in the data stream, which is then used to open a window to search for the address mark. If the address mark is not detected during the window, the search for the address mark is restarted. The window can have a duration based on a length of the address mark. The address mark can be, for example, a servo address mark following a servo preamble or a read address mark following a read preamble. The preamble can have a 2T pattern and the preamble can be detected by determining if energy associated with a 2T frequency is greater than energy associated with a non-2T frequency. The end of the preamble can be performed by an EndOf2T detector that detects a break in an expected bit pattern.

Disk drive and detection method using pre-pit detection and push-pull signal generation

A push pull signal is detected from a disk-shaped storage medium on which wobbling grooves are formed as recording tracks and address information is recorded by forming pre-pits on lands between adjacent grooves. The detected push-pull signal is compared with a reference voltage thereby generating a land pre-pit detection signal. Of pulses included in the land pre-pit detection signal, those pulses having a small pulse width are regarded as noise pulses and removed thereby obtaining a corrected land pre-pit detection signal. The number of pulses included in the land pre-pit detection signal is counted, and the reference voltage is controlled in accordance with the counted number of pulses.

Mastering device, disc manufacturing method, disc-shaped recording medium, disc reproduction device, and disc reproduction method

Second digital information serving as copyright protection information can be stably and reliably read without any effect of a defect or pit missing on a disk-shaped recording medium. The second digital information is recorded onto a disk-shaped recording medium by wobbling a pit sequence recorded as a first signal. Recording device and method of detecting tracking error signal and wobble signal of a wobbled track of an optical disk

In an optical disk recording device for projecting a recording light beam onto an optical disk to form 3T-11T pits in a land of the optical disk, timing to sample and hold a reflected light detection signal for tracking servo control is delayed behind timing to sample and hold the reflected light detection signal for wobble signal detection. Further, a sample-and-hold time period of the reflected light detection signal for tracking servo control is set to be shorter than a sample-and-hold time period of the reflected light detection signal for wobble signal detection. Such arrangements permit appropriate recording, even at high recording speeds, irrespective of residual optical axis deviations.

Disc driving device and wobble information detection method

In an optical disc, a wobble signal is to be detected by a simple configuration. In the optical disc, the address information, modulated onto a sinusoidal cannier signal by adding even harmonics signals to the sinusoidal carrier signal and by changing the polarity of the harmonics signals, is formed into the wobble signal. In detecting the wobble signal from the optical disc to demodulate the address information, in a method for detecting the wobble signal, an even harmonics signal and data clocks are generated, and the even harmonics signal so generated are multiplied with the reproduced wobble signal. The resulting product signal is integrated every data clock. The sign of the digital information is verified based on the integrated value at an end edge of the data clock.
